CORDER, Brenda Jo Martin, 50, of Rt. 3, Max Meadows, the Graham's Forge Community, died Monday, July 25, 1994, at his residence. She was a sales representative with the Southwest Times and a member of the Graham's Forge United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Francis Corder. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Lorie Corder, Winston-Salem, N.C., Stephen and Lorri Corder, Max Meadows; four grandchildren, Karla Jones, Jeremy Jones, Jennifer Corder and Christopher Corder; her parents, Buford and Gladys Chrisley Martin, Max Meadows; three sisters, Freida Bonham, Virginia Beach, Linda Townley, Bland, Connie Lovell, Max Meadows, Jerry Martin, Max Meadows; one brother, Jerry Martin, Max Meadows. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 27, 1994, at 2:00 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Randy Morris officiating. Interment will follow in the West End Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Barnett Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday or at her residence at any time. CRAFT, Charles E., (``Keaton''), 73, of New Castle, died Sunday, July 24, 1994. He was the son of the late ``Pats'' and Artha Craft and was a Decorated World War II veteran, a lifetime member of V.F.W. Post #4491, a charter member of Loyal Order of Moose #1683 and a member of the New Castle Christian Church. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 49 years, Marion E. Craft; two daughters and their husbands, Carol and Grover Persinger, Manvel, Texas, Cindy and Monty Green, Pottsboro, Texas; one sister, Cammie Gore, Clifton Forge, and three grandchildren, David Wayne Unroe, Ami Unroe Hale, both of Clifton Forge, Eric Pierce Bostic, New Castle; five great-grandchildren; also the fathers of his grandchildren, Steve Unroe, Clifton Forge, and Rockie Bostic, New Castle; and a dear family fri end, Helen Saunders, Roanoke. The funeral will be Wednesday, July 27, 2 p.m. at Boitnott Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in Huffman Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Tuesday 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. DeWEESE, Carl Eugene, ,61, of Salem, died Sunday, July 24, 1994, in a Salem hospital. He was retired from Peacock-Salem. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ed and Howard DeWeese. He is survived by his wife; Dollie Boyd DeWeese, one sister, Everta Joyce, of Mullins W.Va.; two sisters-in-law, June DeWeese of Roanoke, Reba DeWeese of Salem, and nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 27, 1994, at 2 p.m. at the Southside Baptist Church in Salem, with the Rev Bill Atkins officiating. Interment will be at Sherwood Memorial Park. DOOLEY, Lula B. Heck, (``Sissy''), 62, of Roanoke, died Sunday, July 24, 1994. She was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Madgaline Heck and a twin brother, George Heck. She is survived by a devoted and loving husband of 46 years, Manuel Dooley; five daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Glenn Barger, Troutville, Bonnie Robertson, Roanoke, Mary and Clayton Edwards, Thaxton, Linda and Clyde Barger, Blue Ridge, Connie and Carl Sink, Fincastle; one son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Sherrie Dooley, Montvale; 14 grandchildren, Greg, Missy, and Stephanie Barger, Junior and Darlene Robertson, Karen and Ernie Perdue, Brian, Angie, and Chad Sink, Matt and Heather Dooley, Shannon and Robbie Hartberger; step-grandchildren, Joey and Rodney Barger, Rhonda Justis; one great-granddaughter, Brittney Robertson; six sisters, Violet, Mildred, Mary, Pauline, Josephine, and Faye; five brothers, Marvin, Otey, Andrew, James, and Ray. EDWARDS, Miss Addie Icly, 81, of Woodlawn, Va., died Sunday, July 24, 1994, in the North Carolina Baptist Hospital. She was born in Carroll County, Va., March 8, 1913 to James H. Edwards and Joanna Ogle Edwards. Survived by four sisters and brothers-in-law, Iva and Jack Jennings, Irene and Cecil Smith, Woodlawn, Evalene Gardner and Earthel and Cecil Coulson, Hillsville, Jewell E. Lineberry, Galax; brother and sister-in-law, Orbin and Rita Edwards, Woodlawn; 15 nieces and nephews and 13 great-nieces and nephews. ``Miss Icly'' was the clerk of the school board at Carroll County, Va. for 22 years. She was a member of the Woodlawn United Methodist Church and held numerous offices in the church. She was also a member of the church choir. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 26, 1994, in the Woodlawn United Methodist Church with burial in the Woodlawn Cemetery. Officiating ministers; The Rev. Bill Edmonds and the Rev. HOKE, Paul Burdette, 80, of 1533 Ingalls St., Clifton Forge, died Monday, July 25, 1994, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Janis Dressler. He was born in Monroe County, West Virginia, on October 7, 1913, son of the late Gerald Leroy Hoke and Susan Burdette Hoke. He was a retired Service Manager for Goodwin Chevrolet and a former employee of Wood Chevrolet. Mr. Hoke was a member of the Clifton Forge Baptist Church, Men's Bible Class and a Deacon of the church. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ruby Raines Hoke of Clifton Forge; daughter, Mrs. Frank (Janis) Dressler, Roanoke; three sisters, Mrs. Grace Blaker, Covington, Mrs. Alice Ruth Graner, Clifton Forge, Mrs. Isabell Brillhart, Pulaski; three grandchildren, Lloyd B. Wills, Blue Ridge, Aletha Bowman, Roanoke, F rank Dressler III, Roanoke; two great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, 11 a.m., at Nicely Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. J. Glenn Linthicum and the Rev. William Harris Jr. officiating. Interment to follow in the Mountain View Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home.

KERNS, Dorothy Caldwell, 68, of Roanoke, passed away Monday, July 25, 1994. Formerly of New Castle, she was born March 8, 1926. Mrs. Kerns was preceded in death by her husband, William C. Kerns; her mother and father; a sister. Surviving are sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Mary Kerns, New Castle, Jimmy Kerns, Winston-Salem, N.C., William and Robin Kerns, Roanoke; daughters and son-in-law, Becky and Mike Coloton, Jacksonville, N.C., Sherry Kerns, Roanoke; eight grandchildren; special friends, Tommy Huffman, Jean Kerns, Norene Reynolds; a special cousin, Catherine Bush; sisters and brother-in-law, Martha and Aubrey Adams, Salem, Phyllis Russell, Pascohe, R.I. LEECH, Elizabeth Virginia, 79, of Roanoke, died Monday, July 25, 1994. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl A. Leech; daughter, Debra Amos; son, Larry Stanley Leech. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara L. and Oliver Byers of Roanoke; Phyllis L. and Tom Spangler of Salem; her sons and daughter-in-law, William Wayne and Sara Jo Leech of Elliston, and Earl Eldridge Leech of Roanoke; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, at the 17th Street Baptist Church, by the Rev. Kenneth Gray and the Rev. David Jones, with burial in Mountain View Cemetery, Vinton. MINNIX, Irene, a long time resident of Cape May and Atlantic Counties, died Friday, July 8, 1994, after an extended illness. She was 91 years old. Jane Irene Leverett was raised in Piedmont, S.C. She trained to be a nurse at Limestone College in Gaffney, South Carolina until she married Bruce M. Minnix of Roanoke, Va., in 1922. In the early thirties she and her family moved to Souther New Jersey. Mrs. Minnix lived for many years on Loraine Avenue in Pleasantville, N.J., and was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church. She belonged to the Keystone Chapter #69 of the Order of the Eastern Star. After moving to the City of Cape May in the late 1960s, she became one of the original members of the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts. Mrs. Minnix is survived by two sons, Bruce, Cape May, N.J, and James, Hilton Head, S.C.; two grandsons, Dean, N.J., and Mark, S.C.; one granddaughter, Tracy, N.H., five great-grandchildren and six stepgrandchildren. Services were private, and in accordance with her wishes, Mrs. Minnix's body was donated to the Medical School in New Brunswick, N.J. Memorials may be sent to charity of the donor's choice.

MOORE, Orville Ray, 91, of Galax, died Sunday, July 24, 1994. Survived by one neice, Wanda Alderman, Galax; four nephews, Bob Moore, Mancelona, Mich, Bill Moore, Galax, Sam Moore, Winston-Salem, N.C., Frank Moore, Lanoke, Ark. MORGAN, Ilse-marie, 54, of Bedford County, died Sunday, July 24, 1994, at 9 a.m., in Pickaway County, Ohio. She was born on April 11, 1940, in Flensburg, Germany, the beloved daughter of Hilda and Fredy Balke of Edingen, Germany. In addition to her parents, she is survived by daughters, Michelle Lynn Moore Dalton, age 29, and Patricia Angela Moore Sumner, age 24; sons-in-law, Andrew Johnston Dalton, age 30, and Steven Wayne Sumner, age 33; grandchildren, Brittany Marie Dalton, age 4, and Andrew Johnston Dalton II, age 7; a sister, Gabriella Balke; two brothers, Dieter Balke and Peter Balke, all of Edingen, Germany, and her fiance, William Christopher Kidd, age 55, of Bedford County. Ilse and Chris were planning to be married in September in Germany. The couple was on their way from visiting family in Ohio when their car was struck head-on by a truck driven by a drunk driver. She was a licensed real estate agent with Boone & Company Realtors. She was a graduate of the Realtors Institute, a Certified Real Estate Specialist, and an Executive Associate of the Multi-Million Dollar Club. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Oakey's North Chapel with the Rev. Norman Whitney of Graham, N.C. and the Rev. Frank Feather, of Roanoke officiating. Friends may call at Oakey's North Chapel from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm on Tuesday. Contributions may be made to the local chapter of MADD or SADD.

PEERY, Charles Henry III, of Willis, passed away Saturday, July 23, 1994. He was the son of the late Annie Groseclose Peery. Born January 4, 1922, Mr. Peery was raised on the family farm at Tazewell, Va. After graduating from Tazewell High School, he attended Kentucky Military Institute for one year, then enrolled in 1940 at VPI & SU, majoring in Forestry and Wildlife. In 1943, he began three years active duty in the U. S. Army. Upon completion of his military services, Mr. Peery resumed his studies at VPI & SU, graduating with a M.S. degree in 1948. Following graduation, Mr. Peery began a 35 year career as a Wildlife Biologist with the Virginia Game Commission. Following his retirement, he served two years as County Administrator of Tazewell County. Mr. Peery is survived by his wife, Ophelia Ortega Peery; niece, Suzette Moser; and nephews, Robert R. Bottimore Jr. and Thomas E. Moser. A private memorial service w ill be held at a later date.

PERDUE, Shelby Jean, Mrs. Shelby Jean Crowder Perdue, 39, of Roanoke, passed away Sunday, July 24, 1994. She was a member of Oakland Baptist Church. Surviving are her husband, Virgil H. Perdue and two sons, George Thomas Perdue and Michael Wayne Perdue, both of the home; her mother and stepfather, Joan and Herman Danisch, Roanoke; her father, George Crowder, Roanoke; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Sherrie and Roger Sink, Roanoke, Sandra Moon, Carolina Beach, N.C.; one brother and sister-in-law, David T. and Kay Crowder, Roanoke; her grandmother, Lelia DeLong, Roanoke; one nephew, Chris Davis, Roanoke; two nieces, Megan Webb, Carolina Beach, N.C., Kenzie Crowder, Roanoke; one brother-in-law, Douglas T. Perdue, Salem; one sister-in-law, Evelyn P. Crowder. Funeral services will be conducted 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 27, 1994, at Oakey's North Chapel w ith the Rev. H. Kelly Dampeer officiating. POFF, Mabel Conner, 78, of Copper Hill, passed away Sunday, July 24, 1994, in Richfield Nursing Center in Salem. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Winston R. and Carolyn Poff of Copper Hill, Rex S. and Elizabeth Poff of Copper Hill; eight sisters, Pauline Rakes of Floyd, Iva Morgan of Copper Hill, Hazel Ferris of Floyd, Velva Davis of Roanoke, Virginia Conner of Roanoke, Bonnie Conner of Copper Hill, Dexter Sowers of Copper Hill, Georgianna Link of Bristol; one brother, Woodrow Conner of Copper Hill; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Salem Church (head of River Church) with Elder Hale Terry officiating with interment in Restvale Cemetery. SIGMON, Omedel Frederick, 72, of Danville, died Sunday, July 24, 1994, at Camelot Hall Nursing Home, Danville. He was the son of the late Odell Sigmon and Marcella Whorley Sigmon. Surviving are his two daughters, Pat Conrad, Martinsville, Betty Hubbard, Rocky Mount; two sons, Mike Sigmon, Roanoke, Omedel F. (Junior) Sigmon, Martinsville; three sisters, Annie Perguson, Danville, Vera Allen, Rocky Mount, Paula Sigmon, Mississippi; one brother, O. D. Sigmon, Dover,Del.; seven grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, July 27, 1994 at 11 a.m. at the Sigmon Family Cemetery, Ferrum. SMITH, Anne Lee Gardner, 74, of Roanoke, died at her home, July 25, 1994. She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore M. Smith Sr.; her sister, Lois Jane Gardner Boyd; her parents, Dr. and Mrs. J. I. Gardner of Blacksburg. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Ted M. Smith Jr., and wife, Dianne, of Roanoke and Tyson Gardner Smith and wife, Gay, of Shawsville; one grandson, Theodore M. (Tad) Smith III, Palm Bay, Florida; also surviving are one sister, Mrs. Betty Jo Gardner Dudley, of Rocky Mount, Va.; several nieces and nephews; a special cousin, Robert Bradford of Danville, California. Mrs. Smith was born in Blacksburg, Virginia, August 6, 1919, and attended Mary Baldwin College and Longwood College. She was a long time member of the South Roanoke United Methodist Church and helped found the Shedd School in Roanoke. A memorial service will be conducted Wednesday, July 27, 1994, at 10:30 a.m. at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel, with Dr. Donald H. Roberts officiating. The family will receive friends at the home on Tuesday, July 26, from 3 to 6 p.m.

THOMAS, Susie Lester, 96, of Christiansburg, departed this life on Friday, July 22, 1994. Susie was one of nine children born to the union of Silas and Mary Lester during the year 1900. She married Wiley Thomas on December 24, 1928, living in Christiansburg all her life. Susie was a lifetime active member of Asbury Methodist Church. Susie, as she was fondly known, was one of the oldest residents of Christiansburg and was known by all as a caring and generous person who loved her family. She and her sister, Anna, lived in the old home place until her death. During her adult life, she worked for the Epperly family for over fifty years. Everyone on Main Street knew Susie. She leaves many cherished memories in the minds and hearts of those who knew and loved her. Left to cherish these memories are a son, William, and daughter-in-law, Lucille of Montclair, N. J.; two grandchildren, Ronald Lester, Mitchellville, Md., and Lisa Payne, Tampa, Fla.; two great-grandchildren, Alyson and Martin Payne, Tampa, Fla.; a granddaughter-in-law, Yvette Lester, Mitchellville, Md.; a special niece, Louise Brown, and her husband, Leroy, Christiansburg; and several other nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 27, 1994 at the Asbury Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Lorenzo Hill. Burial in the Schaeffer Memorial Cemetery. WHITT, Brenda Joyce, 46, of Coral Springs, Fla., formerly of Pulaski, Va., died Wednesday, July 20, 1994, in Tamarac, Fla. Ms. Whitt was a secretary for Foreign Services/State Department U.S. Government. Surviving are her father, William Lee Whitt, Pulaski; sister, Linda Bonnano, Coral Springs, Fla.; aunt, Eva Burchett, Draper. A graveside service will be held Thursday, July 28, 1994, at 4 p.m., from the Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin, Va.
