MEETING TO DISCUSS REFUNDS FOR RETIREES

Danny M. Payne, the tax commissioner for Virginia, will be in Roanoke today to talk about how federal retirees can get tax refunds.

A settlement approved by the General Assembly gives retirees $340 million in refunds over five years for income taxes they paid from 1985-88 under a policy overturned by the courts.

The meeting will begin at 9 a.m. in the auditorium at Cave Spring High School. Similar meetings are being held in other parts of the state this week.
