GEORGE PITZER, FORMER BUSINESS CHIEF, DIES

George Lewis Pitzer, former chairman of the board of Pitzer Transfer and Storage Corp., died Sunday morning in a Roanoke hospital.

Pitzer, 78, was active in fund raising for the American Cancer Society. He also served as the organization's president in the early and mid-1960s.

Pitzer was a graduate of Roanoke College, where he played on the school's last football team in 1937.

In April 1993, he was inducted into the college's sports hall of fame.

A service will be held at 3 p.m. today at Evergreen Burial Park.
