REDFORD STARS IN RESTON MONKEY TALE

Robert Redford is slated to star in a movie based on the 1989 discovery of a deadly virus in a Northern Virginia research laboratory.

``A Crisis in the Hot Zone'' is scheduled for release next summer from 20th Century Fox.

The movie depicts the tense several days when scientists discovered monkeys used for research at Hazleton Laboratories in Reston were infected with Ebola, an incurable virus that had killed thousands of people in Africa.

In November 1989, monkeys at the lab began to die mysteriously. It was two weeks before the virus was identified, and several Hazleton workers had been exposed to it.

No one died, but four employees developed antibodies to Ebola. It was the only time the virus has been detected in North America.
