JONATHAN LANCASTER of Snowville, a recent graduate of the automotive analysis and repair program, won the first place medal in the diagnostic category at the state Vocational Industrial Clubs of America competition. Lancaster also competed at the national competition in Kansas City, Mo., in June. He works for Lovelace's Toyota in St. Albans, W.Va.
The New River Community College Board has named ROGER K. LEWIS vice chairman. He is in his second term as a board member. The board is comprised of community leaders from Pulaski, Montgomery, Floyd and Giles counties and the city of Radford.
The art classroom has been named in honor of MARY TARR WHITEHURST, an artist from Draper. Whitehurst's works are included in major collections of Bassett Industries, many area banks and hospitals, and private collections in the United States, Canada and Europe.
JANE SWING, an adult education teacher, is the Virginia Association of Adult and Continuing Education's 1994 part-time teacher of the year.
ERIC BRADY, an audio-visual technician, was a finalist in the Community College Association for Instruction and Technology video competition. His video, "New River Community College 2095," is used to orient students to the learning resources and instructional technology division.
PATRICIA ANN HIGGINS of Blacksburg, a general studies major at New River Community College is the recipient of the Jane O. McCarthy Memorial Scholarship.
JACK M. LEWIS, dean of management services, will attend the Executive Leadership Institute in Newport Beach, Calif., Aug. 7-12, sponsored by the League for Innovation in the Community College. Only 35 community college leaders have been selected to attend.
