The appropriation passed 4-1, with Councilman David Worrell dissenting.
The council this spring had pledged up to $5,000 to match a local-government challenge grant from the Virginia Commission for the Arts.
When the state grant came in at $2,910, council voted to match that amount. DiscoveryWorks requested that the town provide more than just the matching funds, and Monday night, council agreed to fund the rest of the $5,000.
Worrell, who at an earlier meeting had voted against any additional appropriation, said Monday that DiscoveryWorks was doing an "excellent job" but that he still had a problem with giving money that hadn't been matched as required.
In other business the council:
Heard from Lynn Chenault, executive director of the Community Services Board, on proposed cuts in the number of adults the board will sponsor at the New River Valley Workshop. The board and workshop parents will meet 7 p.m. Thursday at the Landmark Building in Radford.
Appropriated $2,883 for Local Emergency Planning Committee operation costs.
Postponed until its next meeting creation of a commission to oversee the city's annual Cleanin' 'n' Greenin' and Environmental Awareness Month activities.
Appointed Todd Jones to the Recreation Commission, William Yerrick to the Radford City Planning Commission and Judy Hood to the Welfare and Social Services Board.
