POWER-LINE MEETINGS PLANNED|

New River Valley citizens will have two more opportunities to meet with U.S. Forest Service officials about alternative routes for Appalachian Power Co.'s proposed 765,000-volt power line.

Officials will hold an informational meeting tonight from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Bland County Courthouse. Another meeting will be held Thursday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Blacksburg High School.

The Informed Citizens' Action Network, a Blacksburg organization, is urging residents of the New River Valley to turn out for these meetings.

A news release listed Preston Forest, Laurel Ridge, Deerfield, Toms Creek Road, Meadowbrook Road, Mount Tabor Road, Catawba Road, Glade Road, Coal Bank, Hollow Road, Newport, Clover Hollow, Dismal Creek, Eggleston, White Gate, Pembroke, Pearisburg and Narrows as areas that could be affected by the Forest Service's proposed alternative routes.

The Forest Service will display maps of the proposed alternative routes and answer citizens' questions about an environmental impact study.

For more information, contact the Forest Service at (703) 265-6054.
