ABSHIRE, Thomas W., (``Tommy""), 76, of Roanoke, died Wednesday, July 27, 1994. Surviving are his daughter, Debra K. Ramsey, Falls Church; a niece, Katherine Christine Abshire, Roanoke; also seven sisters and brothers-in-law, Ethel Kinzie, Salem, Clara Rockwood, Worcester, Mass., Christine and George Ballew, Hampton, Lois Young, Roanoke, Lottie and Forest Turner of Illinois, Gerlda and Mike Mills, Roanoke, Maxine Abshire of Illinois; a dear friend, Dorothy Jones, Roanoke. Funeral services will be conducted from Oakey's Roanoke Chapel, 12 noon Saturday, July 30, 1994, with the Rev. J. Richard Gottshall officiating. Interment will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. ALVIS, James Robert Jr., 76, of Roanoke, died Thursday afternoon, July 28, 1994 at his home. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Winston Alvis; a son, James Robert Alvis III and his wife, Cinda, Portland, Ore.; a daughter, Marguerite McNeil and her husband, Alex, Augusta, Ga.; a grandson, Blair McNeil, Blacksburg; and a granddaughter, Ferrell McNeil; and stepmother, Janie A. Secrest, Roanoke. He was a member of Virginia Heights Baptist Church for 51 years , taught a class of senior high boys. He was a charter member of Hidden Valley Country Club, Past President of the Raleigh Court Lions Club and a member of the Roanoke Elks Lodge. He was a member of Lakeland Masonic Lodge; Scottish Rite Bodies, Kazim Shrine Temple where he served in the Provost Guard Unit and in later years Personal Aide and Aide to many Potentates, member of the Roanoke Valley Shrine Club, Past Director of the Royal Order of Jesters and a member of the Kazim Golf Club. He operated his own wine business for many years, later retiring from Taylor Wine Company. A memorial service will be conducted Saturday morning 11 a.m. at the Virginia Heights Baptist Church with Dr. Daniel E. Scott officiating. In lieu of flowers it is requested memorial gifts be sent to the Virginia Heights Baptist Church Special Needs Fund, 2014 Memorial Ave. S.W., Roanoke, Va. 24015 or to the Good Samaritan Hospice, 3825 Electric Road, S.W., Roanoke, Va. 24018. ANGLE, Wallace Glynn, 83, of Route 3, Rocky Mount, died Wednesda y, July 27, 1994 in the local hospital. He was preceded in death by his parents, W. Roy and Odessa Preston Angle. Except for a few years during World War II when he was employed as a skilled craftsman in the Newport News Shipbuilding Company, he was a lifelong resident of Franklin County. Mr. Angle was in the construction business for some thirty years, having a major part in the construction of several schools, churches, and numerous residences in Franklin County. He was a lifelong member of Doe Run Christian Church, having served as Sunday School Superintendent, Deacon, Elder, and member of the Board for many years. Mr. Angle was a beloved and devoted husband and father and a caring neighbor. Surviving are his wife, Mable Woody Angle; one son and daughter-in-law, Glynn Woody and Donna Walker Angle, Roanoke; two daughters and sons-in-law, Rev. Lester C. and Barbara Ward, El Reno, Okla., Will John and Marjorie Ross, Roanoke; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Miss Virginia A. Angle, Rocky Mount, Seymour and Hilda Angle Glatzer, Wayzata, Minn.; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Lee (Gloria) Angle, Rocky Mount, Mrs. George H. (Mildred) Boyd, Danville; grandchildren, Lester Ward II, John C.P. (Kit) Ross, William R. (Bill) Ross, Wendy Ward Spann, Robin Ward Gill, Katherine (Katie) Ward, Ryann Walker Angle; three infant great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive. BAKER, Allene Kate, 91, of Blacksburg, died Thursday, July 28, 1994, in Heritage Hall Health Care Center. Mrs. Baker was born to the late Jesse and Allene Phillips Scoggins in Ooltewah, Tenn., on April 27, 1903. She was a member of the First Church of God (General Offices, Anderson, Ind.). She was preceded in death by her daughter, Geneva W. Blevins. Mrs. Baker was survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Rev. FALLS, Beulah Ann, 67, of Rich Creek, Va., went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 27, 1994, at a Pearisburg, Va. hospital following a long illness. Born September 22, 1926, at Alderson, W.Va. She was the daughter of the late Lonnie L. and Lucy Dillon Meads. Mrs. Falls was a homemaker and member of the Peterstown Christian Church. She was a member of the A.A.R.P. and was preceded in death by three brothers; Sam, Henry and John Meads. Survivors include her husband; Harold D. Falls, one son, Harold D. (H.D.) Falls Jr. of Rich Creek, Va. and one daughter; Debbie Falls of Peterstown, W. Va. HARVILLE, GAIL Gunter, 77, of Murfreesboro, Tenn., died Saturday, July 23, 1994, at Middle Tennessee Medical Center after an extended illness. She was the daughter of the late Obie Gunter and Bessie Mae Nelson Gunter and the widow of Herman Harville, who died in 1964. A native of Wytheville, she moved to Murfreesboro, Tenn. in 1960. She was a member of Westgate Baptist Church, Murfreesboro, Tenn. She retired from Murfreesboro Health Care Center in 1984. She is survived by five daughters, Velma Hanson, Murfreesboro, Tenn., Dorothy Shupe, Buchanan, Brenda Grisham and Deana Grishman, both Carthage, Tenn., and Donna Reed, Murfreesboro, Tenn.; two sisters, Mae Hurst and Jean King, both of Wytheville; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was born in Roanoke, October 30, 1939 and was the son of the late Frank E. McDaniel and Mary A. Howard McDaniel. He worked as a Roller Supervisor for Florida Steel Corp. for 15 years. He served in the U. S. Army. PRESTON, Frank Brockenborough Jr., 67, of Tampa, Fla., died Wednesday, July 27, 1994, at Canterbury Tower Health Center, following a brief illness. He was born in Buenos Aries, Argentina, where his father was the manager of Standard Oil. He moved to Tampa in 1960 as an officer with First National Bank of Tampa. Active in business, civic and charitable activities, Preston served as president of the Ellis National Bank of Tampa, and as the first president of the Barnett Bank of Tampa. Mr. Preston was a descendant of Colonel William Preston of Greenfield, and Smithfield, Blacksburg, Va. historic home, Blacksburg, Va. and a great-great grandson of Judge John White Brockenbrough founder of the law school at Washington & Lee University. On his mother's side, he was descended from Stephen B. Jones, of Baton Rouge, La. His mother was one of the first women graduates of Louisiana State University. In 1937 Preston's family moved from Buenos Aires to Havana, Cuba, where he attended Ruston Academy. A graduate of Episcopal High School (Alexandria, Va.), Yale University and the University of Virginia Law School, Mr. Preston served as a purser in the U.S. Merchant Marine during World War II and with U.S. Army Intelligence in Panama during the Korean War. He began his banking career with Bank of Boston in Havana and served it later in Boston before moving to Tampa. Mr. Preston has been an active member of the Rotary Club of Ybor City, St. Mary's and St. John's Episcopal Churches, the Tamp Bay Area Committee on Foreign Relations, Toastmasters, University Club, Tampa Club, and Tampa Yacht & County Club. He served on the Tampa Port Authority, as president of the Yale Club, Easter Seal Society and Florida Gulf Symphony and was currently on the Centre for Women board. For many years he has been ""A Friend of Bill"". Mr. Preston is survived by a son, Frank B. ""Brock"" Preston III, of Tampa, Fla.; a daughter, Helen Margaret "" Hannah"" Klepinger, of Scarboroug, Maine; a sister, Margaret Preston Moore, of St. Petersburgh; two grandchildren; and many friends drawn from the numerous activities in which he participated. Funeral services will be Tuesday, August 2, 11 a.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church, Tampa, Fla.

SNIDER, Barry Blake, 37, of Blacksburg, Va. died Monday, July 25, 1994, in a mine mishap at Kimballton, Va. Born in Giles Co., Va. he was a son of Emory L. ``Blackie'' Snider of Gold Bond, Va. and Nancy Louise Saunders Snider of Rich Creek, Va. and stepson of Gail B. Snider of Gold Bond. He was employed as a mine supervisor at Eastern Ridge Lime Company, Kimballton Plant in Giles County.
