PENNINGTON 1ST AT FCS - AGAIN

Frankie Pennington seems to have little problem finishing first at Franklin County Speedway. It's getting through the inspection that's been the tough part.

Pennington's Ford was once again the first car across the finish line, winning the 75-lap Late Model Stock Car feature race at the 9th Annual All Pro Auto Parts ``Road to Charlotte'' 300 Saturday night.

Pennington received a $1,700 paycheck, including a $500 bonus from All Pro Auto Parts.

Twice earlier this season, including last week, Pennington was the apparent winner - only to be disqualified during inspection. Replacing the spark plugs cost Pennington a victory on July 23.

On Saturday, Pennington took the lead on lap 11 when pole-sitter Bobby Radford developed a problem with the electrical system on his Dodge, lost power and coasted into the pits.

Points leader Dudley Lawhorn was second, and Carl Dadian finished a close third. Joey Sigmon and Lowe Smith were fourth and fifth, respectively.

In other races Saturday night:

In what has become virtually a weekly occurence, Steve Lam won the Mini Stock race, leading a 23-car field. Carlton Clark finished a season-best second and Tommy Dean was third.

Red Hartman survived a couple of taps from second-place finisher Mike Owens to win the Pure Stock division. Greg Tester, who started at the rear, placed third.

Chad Hodges won the Rookie race. Teen-agers Stephanie Yates and Travis Sharpe finished second and third, respectively.

Phillip VanDerVeer returned to the Street Stock winner's circle after a long drought. Mike Dudley and Leon Dalton were second and third, respectively.
