ROANOKE STAR WINS TOURNEY

The Roanoke Star under-15 team defeated Lervik Soccer Club of Norway 1-0 in overtime to win the Dana Cup in Hjorring, Denmark.

Mike Lukas scored the winning goal, and Tien Cao assisted. Adam Naeman, Jason Ward and Steven Hamblen played outstanding defense. In the semifinals, Roanoke beat the Frederickssund Soccer Club of Sweden 2-1 in overtime. Trevor Plunkett and Noukanh Thephasouk scored for the Star team.

In other sports in the region:

Pack Enterprises of Floyd won the USSSA Western Regional state championship in Independence by defeating Fairway Baptist Church of Bassett 14-6 in seven innings. Fairway Baptist Church came through the losers bracket to defeat Pack 13-9 to force a second championship game, won by Pack. Henry Holt of Pack Enterprises won the MVP award.
