He is survived by his wife, Helen Pauline Bise; one sister, Minerva Neal of Tampa, Fla.; one niece; three nephews; a very special friend who was loved like a son, Derek Howell. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 3, 1994, 10 a.m. at the Lotz Salem Chapel with the Rev. James Millner and the Rev. Claude Oliver officiating. CARDEN, William Ellis, 58, of Radford, died Monday, August 1, 1994, at Montgomery Regional Hospital. He was a retired employee of Old Colony Box Company in Radford. He was a member of Virginia May Lodge #38 A.F. & A.M. He is survived by his wife, Betty K. Carden, Radford; a daughter, Brenda J. Carden, Roanoke; a daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Forrest Davis, Blacksburg; mother, Callie Jeanette Carden, Radford; three brothers, Robert Carden Jr., Prince George; Carl R. Carden and Marshall Ray Carden, both of Chester; two sisters, Cynthia Bernell Mannon, Chester; Margie Alderman, Chester; a special sister-in-law, Lois Carden, Chester; also survived by one grandson, William Clay Cherokee Davis. Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 4, 1994 at 2:00 p.m. from the Grace Brethren Church with the Rev. Lester Kennedy officiating. CROY, James Richard, 80, of Pearisburg, died Monday, August 1, 1994, in Roanoke Memorial Hospital following a long illness. Mr. Croy was a retired Automobile Dealer and was a partner in the Croy Motor Sales. He was born in Pearisburg on October 31, 1913, and was a son of the late Richard Hugh Croy and Margaret Elizabeth Munsey Croy. He is survived by wife, Ross Brotherton Croy of Pearisburg; two daughters, Pamela Croy Newton of Marietta, Ga., Priscilla Morris of Pearisburg; two sons-in-law, Maury C. Newton of Marietta, Ga., Phillip L. Morris of Pearisburg; two sisters, Mrs. Nellie Barber of Pearisburg, Mrs. Clarence Taylor of Pearisburg; one granddaughter, Kimberly Morris of Pearisburg. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday, August 4, 1994, in the Givens Funeral Chapel, Pearisburg with the Rev. Freddrick Long officiating with burial in Birchlawn Burial Park. LESTER, Marie M., 67, of Roanoke Co. died Monday, August 1, 1994, in a local hospital. She was a retired secretary from Cave Spring Elementary School and a member of Cave Spring Baptist Church. Surviving are her husband, Edward L. Lester, Roanoke Co.; son and daughter-in-law, Paul E. and Sandy H. Lester of Blue Ridge; two daughters and a son-in-law, Karen L. Haynes of Nashville, Tenn., Peggy L. and Rick G. Morris of Roanoke; brother, Bill Masterson of Palmetto, Fla.; four grandchildren, Nicole E. Floyd of Roanoke, James Matthew Haynes of Nashville, Tenn., Hunter Robert Lester and Blake Edward Lester both of Blue Ridge. WALDRON, David Nathaniel, 58, of Ford, Kentucky, formerly of Bedford, passed away Monday, August 1, 1994, in the Central Baptist Hospital, Lexington, Kentucky. He was born October 8, 1935, in Franklin County, a son of the late Nathaniel Waldron and Louise Webb Waldron of Bedford, who survives. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Sue Kane and two brothers, John and Roger Waldron. He was a supervisor with Leggett & Platt. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Joyce Joann Campbell Waldron; three sons, Michael Waldron, Gary Waldron, Randy Waldr on, all of Roanoke; two daughters, P. J. Waldron, Ford, Ky., Joann Waldron, Salem; four stepsons, Andy Taylor, Salem, Jimmy Taylor, Rocky Mount, Noell Taylor, Bassett, Eric Taylor, Tucson, Ariz.; two stepdaughters, Lorie Winburn, Floyd, Ky., Colleen Taylor, Spartanburg, S.C.; a brother, Eugene Waldron, Bristol, Va.; a sister, Joy Waldron, Bedford; 22 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be conducted Thursday, August 4, 1994, at 11:30 a.m. in the Peaks Community Cemetery, by the Rev. Wayne Murphy. The family will receive friends Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Updike Funeral Home preceding the graveside service. WOODFORD, Elizabeth Chrisman, 80, of Roanoke, died Tuesday, August 2, 1994. She was the widow of Marshall D. Woodford, a member of the Melrose United Methodist Church and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Railroad Trainmen Lodge #818. Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Lewis C. and Julia F. Woodford, Roanoke; a granddaughter, Melanie W. McDonald, Richmond; one brother and sister-in-law, Earl and Ruth Chrisman, Roanoke. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, August 4, 1994, at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel, with the Rev. Thomas L. Joyce officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Melrose United Methodist Church or to the charity of your choice. Friends may call at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel after 2 p.m. Wednesday where the family will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
