Alrenco Inc., a New Albany, Ind., company operating 35 rent-to-own outlets for home furnishings and appliances, has purchased 18 Magic Rent To Own stores in Virginia, West Virginia and Maryland, including the Roanoke store at 601 21st St. Terms of the acquisition were not reported.

Martin Brothers Contractors Inc. of Roanoke said it has been given contracts for renovations at the Elizabeth Arden Co. plant in Roanoke; the new Carilion Salem Center, a primary care center; and for alterations and additions to the Grand Pavilion shopping center in Roanoke County for corporate offices of Grand Piano and Furniture Co. Martin said the projects are valued at $2.05 million.

The Fairways Group, Manassas operator of golf courses including Countryside Golf Course in Roanoke, said it has acquired Indigo Lakes Golf Course in Daytona Beach, Fla. Terms were not disclosed.

Marshall Miller Geotechnical Drilling Co., an operating division of Marshall Miller and Associates of Bluefield, has changed its name to Marshall Miller Drilling Co. to reflect its broader drilling capabilities, which include environmental sampling and ground-water monitoring wells as well as mine construction.

Miners and Merchants Bank and Trust Co. in Grundy has formed a holding company, Commonwealth Community Bankcorp., effective July 1. Shareholders of Miners and Merchant have become shareholders of the new company.

N.B. Handy Co., Lynchburg supplier of sheet metal, sheet-metal fabricating machinery, roofing products and materials for the heating and air-conditioning trades and operating a warehouse in Roanoke, has purchased Kenco Industrial Products Inc., a Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based metal-fabricating machinery supplier that serves Florida and Caribbean markets.
