CHARITIES RECEIVE PART OF GEORGE LYNCH CAMP PROCEEDS

Joe Gaither, co-director of the George Lynch Roanoke Hawks Basketball Camp, reports that part of the proceeds have been donated to the West End Center and to Project Love.

The West End Center serves Hurt Park, the housing project where Lynch grew up; and Project Love is a support group in Lincoln Terrace, another low-income area.

``Hopefully, next year we can target some other housing projects,'' said Gaither, athletic director for the Inner City Athletic Association. ``George wants to put something back into the community.''

Lynch, a one-time standout for Patrick Henry High School in Roanoke, recently completed his first season with the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association.

``Somebody called me and said, ``Are you sure George Lynch is going to be there?''' Gaither said. ``It was very important for George to be on hand and not just lend his name to it.''
