ANGLE, Alfred C., (Lightning) 79, of Roanoke, died August 16, 1994. Mr. Angle was a retired electrician and a member of Local 637 IBEW International. He was a Navy veteran in the European theatre in World War II. Surviving are his wife, Ruth Meador Angle; sister, Avis Pillow, of Roanoke; brother, Ryland M. Angle, of Roanoke; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel, 1:30 p.m., Friday, August 19, 1994, with the Rev. Frank W. Feather officiating. BOWMAN, Claude M., 63, of Roanoke, passed away Wednesday, August 17, 1994. He was an employee of J.M. Turner & Company. Surviving are his wife, Dolly C. Bowman; sons and daughter-in-law, Dean M. CARTER, John Alvin, 91, of Rout 2, Bedford, died Tuesday, August 16, 1994, at Bedford county Memorial Hospital. He was born in Bedford County, February 22, 1903, son of the late Allie Carter and Fannie Overstreet Carter. He was a retired employee of the Virginia Department of Highways and a member of Cool Springs Pentecostal Holiness Church. He is survived by his wife, Beadie Orange Carter; three sons, Hobart S. Carter, Charles A. Carter and Alan B. Carter, all of Bedford; two daughters, Margie Lee Johnson, Raleigh, N.C, Amanda Rebecca Carter, Madison Heights; a sister, Ada Parker, Thaxton, Va.; 17 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, August 19, 1994, at Carder-Tharp Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Earl Ragland officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. CUSTER, William L., (``Bub''), 70, of Roanoke, passed away Tuesday, August 16, 1994. He retired from Mohawk Rubber Company, was a veteran of World War II, and a member of Williamson Road Church of the Brethren. Surviving are his wife, Claudine Abbott Custer; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Crystal Custer, Hardy; grandson, Anthony Wayne Hash; granddaughter, Stephanie Anne Burley; great-granddaughter, Tayler Dorian Burley; brot her, James Madison Custer, Daleville; sisters, Mary C. DAVIS, Alma Nester, 80, of Radford, died Monday, August 15, 1994, at Highland Manor Nursing Home in Dublin. Born December 18, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Armstead Nester and Nannie Harrell. She is survived by one daughter, Doris Goodman of Dublin; one son, John Davis of Dublin; two sisters, Margaret Yopp of Radford, and Mary Ritter of Belspring. Also survived by ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 18, 1994, at 1 p.m., from the DeVilbiss Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Elbert Cox officiating. Intement will follow in the Brown Cemetery in Belspring. The family received friends Wednesday evening at the DeVilbiss Funeral Home in Radford.

DOOLEY, Isabell Lambert, 78, of Roanoke, died Wednesday, August 17, 1994. She was the widow of Nelson W. Dooley. Mrs. Dooley is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Lynda Dooley, Vinton; a grandson, Jeffrey Dooley, Vinton. GLASS, Essie Kathleen, 96, of Buena Vista, died at her home Wednesday, August 17, 1994. Born in Buena Vista, January 19, 1898, she was the daughter and last survivor of seven children of the late John Wesley Glass and Esther Crist Glass. Essie lived her entire live in Buena Vista, the last 76 years in the same house on Forest Avenue. She was a graduate of Madison College and did graduate work in art at Washington and Lee University. She taught in the public school system of Buena Vista for more than 40 years, serving as an Elementary School principal and as a teacher and assistant principal at Parry McCluer High School. After retiring from teaching in 1964, she served as a Pink Lady at Stonewall Jackson Hospital in Lexington. She was a life-time member of St. Johns United Met hodist Church where she taught Sunday School and authored a church history. She is survived by nine nephews and nieces; and by her good friend and companion, Elizabeth Ruley. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, August 19, 1994 at Green Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Edward H. Johnson officiating. Friends will be received from 7 to 8 Thursday at Lomax Funeral Home.

JENKINS, Eupha Martin, 76, of Roanoke, died Tuesday, August 16, 1994, in Community Hospital of Roanoke Valley. Mrs. Jenkins was born December 1, 1917, in Monroe County, W.Va. The daughter of the late N. B. and Sallie Toothman Martin. Mrs. Jenkins was preceded in death by her husband, Paul H. Jenkins; one son, Kenneth R. (Pete) Jenkins; by six sisters and four brothers. Surviving are her daughter, Mrs. Ronald (Joan) Lawrence of Roanoke; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dale and Dreama Jenkins of Covington, James and Jan Jenkins of Roanoke; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Judy Jenkins of Covington; seven grandchildren, Ryan Jenkins of Pineville, La., Jennifer Jenkins, San Francisco, Calif., Richard Jenkins, Samantha Jenkins and Susan Lawrence all of Roanoke, Cod y Jenkins and Haley Jenkins both of Covington. LEONARD, Susie Kilgore (Mrs. S.J.) 92, of Salem, died at home, Tuesday, August 16, 1994. She was preceded in death by her husband, S. Jacob Leonard, son, Carlton Leonard and daughter, Sue Smith. MEREDITH, William, (``Shank''), 63, of 3341 Easton Rd., Norton, Ohio, died Wednesday, August 17, 1994, in Barberton Citizens Hospital, Barberton, Ohio. He was born July 13, 1931, in Pembroke, Va. He was retired as a salesman from Bob Evans. He was a member of St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church in Norton, Ohio, and the Norton Sports Boosters. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict. PRESTON, Adrian Harvey, 86, of Glade Hill, died Wednesday, August 17, 1994, at Franklin Health Care Center, Rocky Mount. He was born June 29, 1908, the son of the late Albert B. and Ula Thornton Preston Sr. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Albert B. Preston Jr., and Cecil Preston. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Garnett Preston, Glade Hill; two daughters, Angie Vaughan, Vinton, Mary Frances Patterson, Roanoke; three sons and daughters-in-law, B. SHELTON, John Robert, (``Jack''), 78, of Lexington, Va. died Tuesday, August 16, 1994, at his residence. Born at Troutville, Va., March 16, 1916, he was the son of the late Joseph Judson Shelton and Anna Weaver Shelton. Mr. Shelton was a faithful member of Trinity United Methodist Church for over 45 years. He served as a trustee, member of the former official board, as a teacher in the Church School where he worked with the young people and taught a Sunday School Class of adults for over 30 years. He also was a member of the church choir during his active years in the Church. Mr. Shelton was a Certified Public Accountant and maintained his Professional Office in Lexington for 45 years. His Concern for Civic Affairs was through service on several Community committees and as a former member of the Lexington Kiwanis Club. Mr. Shelton is survived by his wife, Vera Hamric Shelton, Lexington, Va.; son and daughter-in-law, Judson Eric and Terry W. Shelton, Roanoke, Va.; three stepsons, Charles W. TAVENNER, Melvin D., 92, of 310 Madison St., Wytheville, died early Friday morning, August 17, 1994, in the Wythe County Community Hospital. Mr. Tavenner was a life-long resident of Wytheville having operated The Sample Shoe Store for 45 years, and was a member of the St. Paul United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by a brother, Olin Tavenner. He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Willie U. Tavenner; one son and daughter-in-law, M.D. and Dolores Tavenner, Columbia, S.C., one stepdaughter and son-in-law, Mabel Jo and Wayne Wilson, Roanoke; three grandchildren, Rhonda Jay, High Point, N.C., Breck and Brent Tavenner, Columbia, S. C.; three stepgrandchildren, Dr. Lisa Wilson Farthing, Andrea and Brad Wilson all of Roanoke; one foster brother, Joe Wilkerson, Covington; seven great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be Friday at 11:00 a.m. in the St. Paul United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Dr. Charles Burnett and the Rev. Henry Horton with the interment to follow in the East End Cemetery. THOMPSON, William Woodrow, 81, of Lexington, died Saturday, August 13, 1994. Graveside service was Wednesday morning at 11 a.m. at the Stonewall Jackson Cemetery. Harrison Funeral was in charge of arrangements.

WILLIAMS, Minnie Katherine Jones, 36, of Radford, died Tuesday, August 16, 1994, in Montgomery County. She was owner and operator of East Side Chevron in Radford. She was a member of Main Street Baptist Church. She was born November 17, 1957 to the late Levi S. Jones and Emily P. Jones. She is survived by one daughter, Candace Renee Williams and one son, Alton (Trey) Brown Williams III; one brother, Levi Jones of Dublin; two sisters, Kaye Haynes of Dublin and Joyce Jones Martin of Martinsville. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 20, 1992, 2 p.m. from the Main Street Baptist Church in Christiansburg with the Rev. Pete du Plessis officiating. WORLEY, Frances Branch, 88, of Natural Bridge, died Wednesday, August 17, 1994, at her residence. Born February 17, 1906, in Rockbridge Co., Va. she was the daughter of the late George Washington Branch and Emma Ragland Branch. Mrs. Worley was a member of Natural Bridge Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, William Myers Worley on January 6, 1972. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Mavis and Sam Johnson, Staunton, Va., Nellie Frances and Oscar Hill, Natural Bridge Station, Va.; two daughters, Gilberetta Carter, Greenville, Va., Connie Coleman, Natural Bridge, Va.; two sons and daughters-in-law, John Mye rs and Louise Worley, Natural Bridge, Va., Larry and Judy Worley, Waynesboro, Va.; 19 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren; also survived by three sisters-in-law, Beulah Worley, Clemmie Branch and Lessie Quick. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, August 20, 1994, 2 p.m. from the Harrison Funeral Chapel, with Dr. D. B. Martin and Rev.
