Illinois man charged as Nazi war criminal

WASHINGTON - The government charged a retired Chicago-area machinist Wednesday with concealing that he was an armed guard at the Nazi labor camp at Treblinka, Poland, during World War II and participated in a massacre of hundreds of Jewish prisoners.

The Justice Department's Office of Special Investigations, asked the U.S. District Court in Chicago to strip Bronislaw Hajda of the U.S. citizenship he obtained in 1955. The 70-year-old native of Poland lives in retirement in Schiller Park, Ill., a suburb west of Chicago.

Pearl Jam drummer leaves the band

SEATTLE - First, Pearl Jam canceled its summer tour. Now, drummer Dave Abbruzzese is leaving.

The parting, which is reportedly amicable, took place earlier this week, the group's manager, Kelly Curtis, said Wednesday. He didn't say why Abbruzzese decided to leave after two years with the grunge group.

The Seattle-based band is currently not touring or recording.
