VMI SCOUTING REPORT

1993 record: 1-10 overall; 1-7 Southern Conference.

Coach: Bill Stewart, first year.

Major losses: HB Rob Clark, FB Chris Meacham, LB Camillus Musselman, SS Dewayne Arkadie.

Top returnees: WR Marlon Anderson, TB Thomas Haskins, C Sidney Mitchener, LB Sam Daniels, FS Kevin Reardon.

Key newcomers: QB Al Lester, QB Justin Molloy.

Strengths: Bill Stewart's new multiple-I offense should provide a better balance between VMI's passing and running games. A good nucleus of upperclassmen returns to provide leadership for a large freshman class that could be called on to contribute immediately.

Concerns: After spring drills, only six of 13 returning starters had wrapped up those jobs, Stewart said. The quarterback situation is particularly volatile, with four freshmen making bids to oust 1993 starter Spike Johnson.

Projections: Enthusiasm is high and the Keydets are anxious to prove they can keep up in the Southern Conference. But Stewart must come up with a solid choice at quarterback, someone who can excute the new offense and utilize some talented backs and receivers. 3-8.
