Home sales in the state maintained an even pace for the first seven months of the year, according to a home sales survey published by the Virginia Association of Realtors.

The report showed that 39,415 single family homes were placed under contract through July, compared to 39,300 for the same period in 1993. That's an increase of 0.29 percent.

Sales for the month of July were down 8.9 percent compared to the same period last year. The association said 5,316 new and existing homes were placed under contract this year compared to the prior July's figure of 5,836.
