IT'S ONLY A BRIEF LULL; FALL SPORTS START SOON

It has been a quiet week in the world of community sports.

The quiet before the storm.

The last few summer activities are winding down.

But don't dispair. Fall is almost here. And with it comes more registrations, regular activities and more results.

So here is a brief rundown of games that have taken place on the fields of summer and events that will take place on the fields of fall.

SOFTBALL ROUNDUP: Christiansburg Presbyterian defeated St. Paul I, 14-7, in the season finale for the two teams in the Christiansburg Church Softball League. That gave Presbyterian (10-3) the league championship.

Things got close when St. Paul II edged Presbyterian 12-11 in the final week of the season.

But both of the teams chasing the league leaders lost their next-to-last game as well. Thus, Pilot P.H. (9-4) and Mennonite/Brethren (9-4) each finished one game out of first place.

Dublin Baptist (5-1) fell from the ranks of the unbeatens when it lost to Belspring Baptist in the Dublin Church Softball League.

Dublin Baptist is tied with Dublin Methodist for the league lead. Dublin Methodist downed both Highland Park and Heritage to gain a share of first place.

In its other game, Dublin Baptist beat Fairlawn Baptist.
