CARTER, William Mason Jr., 51, of 102 Rainbow Forest Drive, Blue Ridge, passed away Tuesday, October 4, 1994. He was employed as a Systems Analyst at Norfolk-Southern Railway in Roanoke. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Hoilman Carter, Blue Ridge; one son, William Mason Carter III, Burnsville, Minn. He is also survived by his mother, Lura S. Carter, Salem; two sisters, patricia Carter, Salem and Shirley C. Bishop, Radford; one niece, Patricia B. Whittaker, Madison Heights; and one nephew, Hank Bishop, Radford. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, October 6, 1994 at the Richardson-Horne Funeral Home Chapel,, conducted by the Rev. Joe Green of Radford, with interment in Sunset Cemetery in Christiansburg. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday evening at the richardson-Horne Funeral Home, Christiansburg.

FRINGER, Nelly Ware, 91, of Roanoke, formerly of Springwood, died Sunday, October 2, 1994. She was a very active member of the Springwood Baptist Church and the Mineral Springs Baptist Church. She is survived by one son, Charles S. Sink of Buchanan; two daughters, Frances Gulde of Ashville, N.C., Judy C. Reed of Smyrna, Ga.; two sisters, Lena Faith of Oak Ridge, Tenn., Linnie Meridith of Roanoke; 14 grandchildren; numerous great and great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 5, 1994, 11 a.m. at the Rader Troutville Chapel with the Rev. Bobby Harris and Rev. Chip Corbin officiating. Interment will follow in the Springwood Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. NOTTAGE, Mary McDaniel, 73, of Christiansburg, died Monday, October 3, 1994, at the Radford Community Hospital after a long illness. She was born April 11, 1921 in Montgomery Co unty, Va. She was the daughter of the late Everett J. McDaniel and Olivia Lewis McDaniel. She was preceded in death by her husband, Garwood Nottage, also by three sisters, Aileen M. Redmond, Kathryn M. Smith, and Lillian M. Spells, also one brother, W. Lewis McDaniel. She was a member of the Mount Airy United Methodist Church, Riner, Va. She was a foster mother and care giver for over 400 children while living in Jamaica, N.Y., where she resided for over 52 years. Her survivors are two sisters, Rev. Ethel (Glenwood) Eaves of Roanoke, Cora M. (Waymon) Pack of Christiansburg; one brother, J. Walter (Anny) McDaniel of Suffolk; two stepchildren, Annie Nottage, Ruth Lewis; one sister-in-law, Rose McDaniel of Fairfax; three brothers-in-law, Harold Redmond of Bushwood, Md., Ned Spells of Pennsylvania, Levy Smith of Washington, D.C.; four foster sisters, Marilyn Curtis of Roanoke, Norma Groom of Georgia, Delores Franklin, Rosalie Page, both of Christiansburg; one goddaughter, Latia Sinclair of Jamaica, N.Y.; a special niece, Carolyn Smith of Christiansburg; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held Friday, October 7, 1994, at 11 a.m. at the Mount Airy United Methodist Church, Riner with the Rev. Lyle Morton officiating. The family will receive friends Friday morning from 10:30 until time of service. In lieu of flowers the family wishes that donations be made to the Mount Airy United Methodist Church or the Mongtomery County Rescue Squad. PAGE, Vivian Wade, 78, of Floyd, passed away Tuesday, October 4, 1994, at Lewis Gale Hospital. He was a retired electrician and a Navy veteran of World War II. He is survived by his wife, Gertrude Childress Page, Floyd; three sons and daughters-in-law, Vernon and Nancy Page, Roanoke, Teddy and Connie Page, Salem, Michael and Sherrie Page, Louisa; five daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Pastor Robert Blackwell, Carolyn and Bobby Boyd, both of Floyd, Brenda and Judge John Apostolue, Salem, Deborah and Michael Agee, Connie and Bruce Shaw, both of Roanoke; three brothers, Russell Page, Elizabeth City, N.C., Jesse Page, Troutville, John Page, Salem; three sisters, Juanita Sowers, Roanoke, Hazel O'Bryan, Dove Morrison, both of Ocala, Fla.; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thrusday, October 6, 1994, at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel, Floyd, with Pastor Robert Blackwell and Pastor Michael Vest officiating. PERALA, Kenneth Robert, 41, of Roanoke, died Monday, October 3, 1994, at Duke University Hospital, Durham, N.C. He was the son of the late Karl and Gertrude Schpanski Perala. He was employed by the City of Roanoke and enjoyed his hobby of raising and working with show dogs. He is survived by one son, Jason Perala, Roanoke; and his fiancee, Jean Perdue, Roanoke. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 6, 1994, at Lynch Funeral Home Chapel, Rocky Mount, Va. Burial will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. Surviving are his wife, Betty W. SHELOR, Willie Bratton, 97, of Route 2, Meadows of Dan, died Tuesday, October 4, 1994, in the Twin Cities Hospital in Galax, after a long illness. A native of Patrick County, he was born January 6, 1897, son of the late Asa Dallas Shelor and the late Sarah Quesinberry Shelor. A retired merchant, he was the last surviving veteran of World War I in Carroll County. He is survived by his wife of 76 years, Mrs. Delphia Terry Shelor of the home; three daughters, Mrs. Joe (Bernice) Shelor and Mrs. Jane Puckett, both of Meadows of Dan, and Mrs. John (Mary) Hopkins of Collinsville; four sons, Alden and John Shelor of Meadows of Dan, Thomas Shelor of Ridgeway, and James Shelor of Salem; one brother, Dorse Shelor of Pulaski; a sister, Mrs. Virginia Key of Martinsville; two stepsisters, Mrs.. Silas (Marie) Turman of Meadows of Dan and Mrs. Bill (Opal) Gilbert of Ridgeway; a loving daughter-in-law, Mrs. Virginia Shelor of Meadows of Dan; 23 grandchildren; two step granddaughters; 31 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and three step great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, Maurice Shelor in 1944 and George Shelor in 1987, two grandsons, David Shelor and Dennis Puckett, and one great-granddaughter. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at the New Bell Spur Primitive Baptist Church with the Elders Larry Hollandsworth, Hale Terry, and Carl Terry officiating. Burial with military rites at the graveside will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday night from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at the New Bell Spur Primitive Baptist Church and other times at the family's home, near the church. The body will be placed in the church at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday. TOMLINSON, Roy J., 75, of Lexington, died Monday, October 3, 1994 in the Stonewall Jackson Hospital. Mr. Tomlinson was born February 13, 1919 in Buena Vista a son of the late John Raymond Tomlinson and Henry Anne White Tomlinson. He was a member of the Lauderdale Associate Reformed Presbyterian and a member of the Sharps at the Church. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He fought in the battles of the Rhine and Central Europe with the 89th Infantry Division. He received the Combat Infantry Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Meritorious Unit Award, American Theater Ribbon and the World War II Victory Ribbon and the European African Middle Theater Ribbon. He retired from Burlington Ind. with 43 years service. Mr. Tomlinson was preceded in death by a sister, Annie Lee Tomlinson. Surviving are his wife, Ellen Dixon Tomlinson, Lexington; first cousins; nephews and nieces. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Thursday, October 6, 1994 at the graveside in the Stonewall Jackson Cemetery officiated by the Rev. Zeb Carson Williams. VAUSE, Agnes Puette, 104, of 1815 E. North Street, Greenville, S.C., died Sunday, October 2, 1994, at her granddaughters home in Roanoke. Born in Worry, N.C., she was a daughter of the late Samuel and Selina Kincaid Vause. After graduating from West Hampton Women's College, Richmond, she taught at Caswell Training School in Kingston, N.C. Mrs. Vause was a member of First Christian Church on Edwards Road. She was a private music teacher and a Church Choir Director for many years. Her husband, the Rev. Joel E. Vause, died June 19, 1972. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Marie an d Dennis Austin of Roanoke; a son and daughter-in-law, Samuel P. and Mary Vause of Greenville, S.C.; a daughter-in-law, Leone Vause of Newport News; seven grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. Al Mersman and the Rev. Randy Smith at 1 p.m. Thursday at the graveside in Woodlawn Memorial Park, Section M. VESS, Clinton Mason, 61, of Lexington, died Monday, October 3, 1994, at the Virginia Veterans Care Center, Roanoke. Born February 1, 1933, in Rockbridge Co., he was the son of the late Olin C. Vess and Margaret Morris Vess. Mr. Vess was a member of Collierstown Baptist Church, and retired as an Inspector for the VA Dept. of Transportation, and was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Navy. He is survived by his wife, Virginia T. Vess, Lexington; one daughter, Sue Ellen Chestnut, Lexington; one son, Talbert Mason Vess, Lexington. Funeral services will be conducted from the Harrison Funeral Chapel, Thursday, October 6, 1994, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Robert M. Leonard officiating. Burial will follow in Collierstown Presbyterian Cemetery.
