FIRE DAMAGES 3 BUILDINGS

It took 17 firefighters to control a blaze in Southeast Roanoke late Monday night that quickly spread to involve three buildings.

The fire started just before midnight in a duplex at 1035 Stewart Ave. and was blazing when firefighters arrived, according to a Roanoke Fire Department news release. Flames shooting out of the windows found their way to houses on both sides of the apartment building.

"They had their hands full when they got there," said Lt. Craig Sellers of the fire department.

No one was injured in the fire, which is still under investigation. The duplex building sustained about $30,000 in damage, according to the release. Damage to the other two houses totaled around $12,500.
