BAILEY, Stanley Scott, (``Buck""), 35, of Roanoke, passed away Saturday, October 1, 1994. Survivors include his mother, Shirley P. Bailey, Roanoke; father, Donald J. Bailey, N.C.; three brothers, Michael V. Patterson, Keith Bailey, and Michael L. Washington, all of North Carolina; two uncles, James Patterson and Raymond Patterson, both of Roanoke; two aunts, Sandra Dixon, Connecticut, and Lorice Patterson, Roanoke; one niece, Keisha Cunningham; one nephew, Michael Nedd, both of Roanoke. Funeral services will be Friday, 2:00 p.m. at the Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Joseph J. Mayo will officiate with interment in Williams Memorial Park. The procession will assemble at 2401 Pittsfield Ave., N.W. The family will receive friends Thursday, 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

BAILEY, Stanley Scott, (``Buck""), 35, of Roanoke, passed away Saturday, October 1, 1994. He was born April 13, 1959 to Donald Jay and Shirley Ann Patterson Bailey. He was a graduate of Patrick Henry High School. He played basketball and was involved in other school activities. Buck leaves behind a loving mother, Shirley P. Bailey, Roanoke; his father, Donald J. Bailey, North Carolina; three brothers, Keith Bailey, Michael Patterson and Michael Washington, Roanoke; two uncles, James and Raymond Patterson, Roanoke; two aunts, Sandra Dixion, New Haven, Conn., Laurice Patterson, Roanoke; and a host of other family members and friends. Stanley Buck Bailey departed his life October 1, 1994. On that day God visited his room and whispered gently. It's time my son to come home, home to be with your Father. If life was a flower then he would truly be a florist. To give the flower of life was a joy as well as a pleasure. May God keep him in his loving arms. BOYD, Lakie Lovell, 87, of Ferrum, died Tuesday, October 4, 1994, at Riverside Convalescent Nursing Home, West Point, Va. She was the wife of the late C. Rucker Boyd and the daughter of the late Flem and Lutary Boyd Lovell. Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Nellie and Dusty Crump, New Kent, Va.; four sons and daughters-in-law, Alfred and Doris Boyd and Clifford Boyd, all of Ferrum, Cleo and Marie Boyd, Salem and Billy and Darlene Boyd, Madison, N.C.; two sisters, Edna Fain, Stuart and Mina Rakes, Woolwine; one brother, Edgar Lovell, Woolwine; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. BROUGHMAN, Norman Cleo Jr., 65, of Lexington, died Wednesday, October 5, 1994, at his residence. Born August 8, 1929, in West Virginia, he was the son of the late Norman Cleo Broughman Sr. and Kyula Hinkle Broughman. Mr. Broughman was a self-employed contractor. Surviving are four daughters, Helen B. (Faye) Gilliland, Lynchburg, Norma Shaye Henn, California, Ola Mae Swafford, Alaska, Sandra Kay Epps, Richmond; one son, James Henry Broughman, California; two sisters, Janie Watts, Newport News, Ruth Stover, Newport, News; special friend, Minnie Cox, Lexington; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, October 7, 1994 at 2 p.m. from Harrison Funeral Chapel with Dr. Wyatt W. Mayes officiating. Burial will follow in Stonewall Jackson Cemetery. BURKS, Mary Helen, 76, of Fredericksburg, died Tuesday, October 4, 1994, at Mary Washington Hospital. She was a member of Fredericksburg United Methodist Church, a member of the Mary Washington Hospital Auxiliary, a Charter member of Fredericksburg Lioness Club and member of the Women's Club. She is survived by her husband, David C. Burks; two daughters, Mary Virginia Cullen of Louisa and Betty Cabell of Jacksonville, Fla.; three grandchildren, Lewis A. Keller IV, David C. Cullen and John C. Cullen all of Louisa; a sister, Mildred D. Wedge of Fremont, Calif. and a brother, C. Noell Damron of Dundalk, Md. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 until 7 p.m. at Mullins & Thompson Fredericksburg Chapel where a funeral service will begin at 7 p.m. A graveside service and burial will take place Friday at 1 p.m. at Glasgow Cemetery, Glasgow, Va.

CARTER, Bess M., 98, of Hinton, W. Va., died 3 p.m. Tuesday, October 4, 1994, in Summers County Hospital in Hinton, W. Va., following a long illness. She was born July 22, 1896, near Montvale in Bedford County, was the daughter of Andrew L. and Lucy Davis. She has lived most of her life in Hinton, and was the last surviving member of her family. Surviving are neices and nephews. Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Thursday, at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlor Chapel, Hinton, W. Va., with Pastor Robert Moore officiating. CARTER, William Mason Jr., 51, of Blue Ridge, died suddenly Monday, October 3, 1994, in Salem. He was a retired employee of Norfolk-Southern Railway. DAVIS, Mason Tommy, 44, of Willis, passed away Tuesday, October 4, 1994, in Lewis-Gale Hospital in Salem. He was retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation after 20 years service. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves for 24 years. He was a member of Topeco Church of The Brethren and Floyd Masonic Lodge #329, A.F. & A.M. EDWARDS, Claude Allen, 81, of Thaxton, passed away Wednesday, October 5, 1994, in the Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born July 4, 1913 in Roanoke County. He was preceded in death by a son, Wayne Lee Edwards. FRANCIS, Katherine Whitehurst, 88, of Roanoke, passed away Tuesday evening, October 4, 1994, in a local hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, M. Neilson Francis and a brother, George T. Whitehurst. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Miles N. Jr. and Sandy M. Francis, Jacksonville, Fla.; two grandchildren, Katherine M. Francis, DVM, Harrisonburg, Michael M. Francis, Gainesville, Fla.; and a sister, Mrs. D. T. Martin, Jacksonville, Fla. She was a teacher in the Roanoke City Public Schools for many years, a member of Raleigh Court Presbyterian Church, and the Town and Country Garden Club. Mrs. Francis was a Master Flower Show Judge in the National Federation of State Garden Clubs. A memorial service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Friday from Raleigh Court Presbyterian Church with Dr. F. Tupper Garden and the Rev. Gene Edmunds officiating. Interment will be private. KREST, Leo P., (``Bucky''), 75, of Virginia Beach, died Tuesday, October 4, 1994. Mr. Krest was born in Pittsburgh, Pa. He was a retired manager of the Motor Insurance Corp. of General Motors in Norfolk after 28 years. He was a member, elder and treasurer of Thalia Trinity Presbyterian Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II; former real estate agent; served on the Community Trust Board, City of Virginia Beach; and was instrumental in helping to start the Virginia Beach Sheltered Workshop and obtaining homes and retarded citizens. Survivors include his wife, Agnes Frew Krest; three daughters and their husbands, Claudia Krest and Garey L. Laube of Colonial Heights, Va., Patricia Lee Krest of Virginia Beach and Kathleen Krest and Kirkwood C. Grove of Roanoke; a son and his wife, Kevin P. and Martha W. Surviving are her husband, William Stritesky; son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Jean Stritesky, Roanoke; daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy and Eldon Hensch, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; grandchildren, Bruce and Teresa Stritesky, Roanoke, Jeff and Irma Stritesky, Botetourt Co.; Debra and Mike Jankins, Urbondale, Iowa, Dwayne and Julie Hensch, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; four great-granchildren, Jeffrey and Ashley Stritesky, Botetourt Co., Matthew and Nicholas Hensch, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; sister, Mabel Ludvicek, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Funeral servic es will be conducted 10 a.m. Monday, October 10, 1994, at Brosh Funeral Chapel, 1028 3rd Street, S.E., Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Interment will follow in Czech National Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. The family will receivefriends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Oakey's North Chapel.

TUCK, Olan Christian, 76, of Huddleston, passed away Tuesday, October 4, 1994, in the Virginia Veterans Care Center. He was born September 26, 1918 in Hopewell, Va. a son of the late Early Lay Tuck and Hattie Lucas Hines Tuck. His wife was the late Berdie Marie Noel Tuck. He was a retired boiler operator with Randolph Macon Women's College, and was an Army Veteran. He is survived by five sons and daughters-in-law, Claudius and Sandra Tuck, Danny and Gloria Tuck, Barry and Betty Tuck, Ricky and Susan Tuck, all of Huddleston, Herman and Deborah Tuck, Bedford; three daughters and sons-in-law, Wanda and Douglas Dellis, Gloria and George Cooper, both of Huddleston, Cheryl (Cookie) and David S tevens, Bedford; four brothers, Warren Tuck, Jackie Tuck, both of Moneta, Pete Tuck, Huddleston, Early L. Tuck Jr., Altavista; three sisters, Lucy Doss, Richmond, Minnie Wishon, Lynch Station, Elton Mayhew, Moneta; 19 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, October 7, 1994 at 2 p.m. from the Updike Funeral Chapel, Huddleston, by the Rev. Wayne Murphy. Interment will follow in the Tuck Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Updike Funeral Home, Huddleston.

WILLIS, Willie, (Bill), 74, of Roanoke, died Tuesday, October 4, 1994, in a Roanoke hospital. He made artifical limbs for many years in the Roanoke Valley. He is survived by his wife, Kate Lena Willis; one sister, Annie McMullen, Arkansas; several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held Friday, October 7, 1994, at noon at Beaver Dam Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Robert Sadler officiating. Friends may call at Lotz Vinton Chapel after 12 noon on Thursday.
