CHRISTIANSBURG - Wade's Supermarkets in Blacksburg and Christiansburg will issue gold receipts to shoppers through Nov.15 that they can turn in to raise funds for Montgomery County Public Schools.
Wade's will donate 2 percent of all gold-receipt totals to the county schools' Home-School Communication System.
Drop boxes to collect the receipts are located at the following sites:
Montgomery County-Floyd Regional Library, Blacksburg and Christiansburg branches; First National Bank, all Montgomery County branches; Central Fidelity Bank, Blacksburg and Christiansburg branches; Montgomery County Courthouse; Christiansburg Senior Citizens Center; Cambria Baptist Church; Main Street Baptist Church in Christiansburg; Kmart; Wal-Mart; Montgomery County School Board Office in Christiansburg.

Promoting education
BLACKSBURG - A committee joining the efforts of the Montgomery County Schools and local businesses in encouraging students to complete high school will hold a breakfast meeting for local business and industry leaders Thursday, Oct. 20, at 8:30 a.m. at Custom Catering.
The Montgomery County Workforce Endorsement Advisory Committee will introduce a proposed agreement between the business community and the county schools to encourage students to finish school and attain employment skills.
C&M Shoe Repair opens
CHRISTIANSBURG - C&M Shoe Repair recently celebrated its grand opening in the Market Place plaza.
The new business repairs and refurbishes shoes and carries orthotic devices and shoe accessories. Owner Chuck Kerr managed Shoe Fixers in the New River Valley Mall for nearly six years.
