ABINGDON BANK TO TEST NETWORK

The First Bank & Trust Co. of Abingdon has been selected by the American Bankers Association in Washington to participate in a pilot program testing an electronic communications network for the banking industry.

The pilot program, consisting of 200 U.S. banks, will develop an electronic network allowing access to information from the American and Virginia bankers associations, regulators, libraries and other sources.

William Hayter, chief executive officer of First Bank, said it must take full advantage of technologies offered to the industry in order to remain competitive and offer customers the best service possible.

"This program allows us to draw upon additional resources to support our efforts to accomplish our goals," he said.

The First Bank & Trust company has offices in Abingdon, Bristol and Lebanon.
