RELIGION BRIEFS

THE COMMUNITY CHRISTMAS STORE, a service project for the needy of Salem, Roanoke County and Vinton, will benefit from a Christian Community Concert on Saturday at Tabernacle Baptist Church, 1923 E. Main St. in Salem.

The concert will include music by Holy Wind, Wings of Faith, Twice Born, Wanda Smith, Mike Whitlow, Cheryl Campbell, The King's Heirs and Living Proof. Tickets for the 7 p.m. concert are $10; call 389-0961.

In 1993, the first year of operation, the store provided food, clothing and toys for 125 households. This year's goal is 500.

BIBLE STUDY FOR INTERNATIONALS has begun at First Baptist Church in downtown Roanoke. The class, to held Sundays at 10:30 a.m. in Room 323 of the Family Life Center, will be taught by multilingual teachers who are members of the church. Call 224-3378 for more information.

BONSACK BAPTIST CHURCH has set Sunday through Oct. 23 as a time for emphasis on world hunger. Rice bowls have been distributed to members of the congregation in which money will be collected for presentation. Funds will be sent to the Southern Baptist Foreign Mission Board for distribution as needed.

MOUNT MORIAH BAPTIST CHURCH, 3521 Orange Ave. N.E., will observe the first anniversary of the coming of its pastor, the Rev. Thomas E. Pleasant with a special service Sunday at 3 p.m. Speaker will be the Rev. James A. Braxton of First Baptist Church in Salem.

GRACE AND TRUTH BAPTIST CHURCH, 3541 Orange Ave. N.E., has scheduled evangelistic services Sunday through Friday. Guest preacher will be the Rev. Cecil Wright.

A nursery will be staffed and special music presented nightly. The Sunday night service will start at 7 with those during the week at 7:30 p.m.

BETTY TARPLEY, a staff member of Unity of Roanoke Valley Church, has been awarded a licensed Unity teacher certificate. She is a graduate of Unity School of Christianity as are four other teachers in the congregation.

GARDEN CITY BAPTIST CHURCH, 3536 Garden City Blvd. S.E., will observe its 65th anniversary and homecoming on Oct. 23 beginning at 9:45 a.m. Events will include a potluck lunch at 12:30 p.m., a concert by the Halsey Trio at 7 p.m. and the opening of revival services at 7:30 p.m.

The Rev. Brady Willis will be the evangelist for the revival. The 12th anniversary of the coming of the Rev. Don McCaskill as pastor also is being noted.

THE BOOK OF REVELATION is the subject of a Wednesday night Bible study at 7 at Belmont Presbyterian Church, 1005 Ninth St. S.E. The class is being taught by the Rev. Elliott Hipp, pastor. He will use a video, "Breaking the Code: Understanding the Book of Revelation."

FELLOWSHIP BAPTIST CHURCH, will have a special Harvest Sunday on Sunday and will honor Pete and Lillian Arnold, who will celebrate their 78th wedding anniversary. Sunday school will start at 10 a.m., and morning worship is at 11.
