STUDENTS SENTENCED IN BOMBING

The last two of four Liberty University students who exploded a pipe bomb on campus last spring have been sentenced to three weekends in jail.

Circuit Judge Richard S. Miller on Friday found the students guilty but granted a defense request to hold the convictions in abeyance until the sentences have been served. That means he can expunge the convictions.

Jeffrey W. D'Angelo, 19, of Vernon, N.J., and Craig R. Konchak, 22, of Timberbrook Pine, Fla., also must do 100 hours of community service. D'Angelo is a sophomore and Konchak has since graduated and is working toward a master's degree. Two other students received similar sentences earlier this month.

The students said the bomb was meant as a prank. But when it was hurled from a second-floor dormitory window May 6, a piece of shrapnel crashed through the first-floor window of the resident director's dormitory, hit a nightstand only inches from her husband's head and ricocheted into the wall.
