NAMES & CHANGES

Shoemaker heads First Virginia Bank in Franklin County

RICHARD A. SHOEMAKER has been elected president and chief executive officer of First Virginia Bank-Franklin County, meaning he will oversee six branches with assets of $123 million. He comes to Franklin County from First Virginia Bank-Tidewater, where he was senior vice president and zone manager.

He has been with First Virginia Banks Inc. since 1971, when he was a branch manager. Later he became a vice president of First General Mortgage Co., a subsidiary of Falls-Church-based First Virginia. Before working for First Virginia, Shoemaker worked for more than 12 years at other financial institutions.

HOSPITALITY

SANDRA L. CANNADAY has joined Hotel Roanoke and Conference Center as sales manager. Cannaday had been with Holiday Inn-Tanglewood since 1992. In her new position, she will be working from the hotel's office at Franklin Plaza in downtown Roanoke.

At The Homestead resort hotel in Hot Springs, BILL GILMORE has been named vice president of group sales. Gilmore comes to The Homestead from The Greenbrier Hotel in White Sulphur Springs, W.Va., where he was sales director for 10 years.

Also at The Homestead, LIBBY PAREDES has been named equestrian manager. She comes to the resort from Professional Equine Management in Texas. She will oversee the equine facilities and direct the staff in providing horses and carriage rides for guests.

INSURANCE

VERA JO SPRINGER has been appointed managing partner of the Roanoke general office of New York Life Insurance Co. Springer had previously been the managing partner in Mobile, Ala., with the Gulf Coast agency. She started with the company in 1981 in the Richmond agency.

MANUFACTURING

Tultex Corp. has named three vice presidents for sales and marketing: ANTHONY PICHIRALLO for the wholesale division, RICHARD QUEEN for Discus Athletic products and SONNY WADE for the retail division. Pichirallo has been with Tultex since 1987, most recently as general manager-wholesale division. Queen joined Tultex in July as general manager-Discus Athletic. Wade joined Tultex in 1991 as general manager-retail, a position he held until his recent promotion.

MEDICINE

DR. ANNE M. JAEGER has joined Jefferson Internal Medicine Associates in Roanoke. Following her internal medicine residency, Jaeger completed a two-year fellowship in geriatrics at the University of Virginia Medical Center. In her new position, she will practice all aspects of internal medicine with emphasis on geriatric patients.

DR. PAUL M. SHOENFELD, a podiatrist practicing with Roanoke Podiatry and Foot Surgery, was recently re-elected president of the American Board of Podiatric Orthopedics and Primary Podiatric Medicine. Shoenfeld has practiced in Roanoke for more than 16 years. He has been active with the group for more than five years as a board member, treasurer, vice president and president.

NONPROFITS

RON BOYD has been named director of personnel and training at League of Older Americans Area Agency on Aging in Roanoke. Boyd is responsible for supervising the agency's employment and training department, which helps people over age 55 with job searches, training and placement. He will also be responsible for the agency's personnel functions. Also, GINA BROWN has been hired as an employment specialist who will provide counseling, training and placement. KEVIN McCULLOUGH has been promoted to director of public relations. He will coordinate the league's development, marketing and information programs.

The Blue Ridge Zoological Society of Virginia Inc., which operates Mill Mountain Zoo, has hired REBECCA A. BEARD as development and special events coordinator, a newly established position. Her duties will include fund raising and coordination of the zoo's special events, as well as implementation of a major fund drive for the zoo's master plan.

SUPPLIERS

JERRY D. DOBBINS has been promoted to vice president of Goode Omega Inc., a marketer of petroleum equipment. Dobbins joined the Roanoke branch of the Richmond-based company in 1988 as an inside salesman and was promoted to branch manager in 1989. In his new position, Dobbins will continue to work in Roanoke.
