REGIONAL JAIL ISSUE DELAYED UNTIL MONDAY

A special meeting of the Bedford County Board of Supervisors scheduled for Thursday night was postponed until 7:30 p.m. Monday because of a board member's illness. The meeting was to decide the fate of the proposed Blue Ridge Regional Jail, which would put Bedford's jails in a system with Campbell County and Lynchburg.

The board's regular meeting this week had been moved to Thursday after the board's chairman, James Teass, died of a heart attack.

Normally, to call a special meeting, the county must give the public five days' notice, or all the board members must sign a waiver.

Because Supervisor Calvin Updike had the flu, the waiver could not be signed and the special meeting had to be rescheduled.
