BREAK-IN CHARGES NEW RIVER VALLEY BUREAU

City police say they have charged two Radford men with breaking into a Fairfax Street apartment Monday and destroying items while the tenant hid in his bedroom.

Everett Roscoe Shaver II, 34 of the 1500 block of Eighth Street, and Andrew Leonard Walker, 28 of the 200 block of Third Street were charged following an investigation by Sgt. Jerry Hendricks, said Capt. Gary Harmon.

The apartment dweller, who did not report the break-in until Wednesday, hid near a bedroom closet when he heard men calling his name about midnight Monday and banging on his door. Harmon said someone had kicked in the apartment door, broken a glass kitchen tabletop, destroyed a VCR and thrown other items around the apartment, causing $555 in damages.

The tenant told police he recognized the voice of one of the men, who occasionally stayed at the apartment. Shaver and Walker will be arraigned in Radford General District Court.
