The Radford Community Hospital Auxiliary is sponsoring a bone-marrow drive Friday, Nov. 11, 1-6 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 12, 9 a.m.-1 p.m., at the Norwood Professional Center, 600 Norwood St., Suite F.
Persons in good overall health, ages 18-55, are eligible for testing to become volunteer marrow donors. During the testing small samples of blood are taken, tested for marrow type, and then listed with the National Registry of the Marrow Donor Program. Individuals who have preliminary matches with a patient searching for a donor will undergo additional testing prior to actually donating their bone marrow.
The first 53 people to call and register are eligible to go through the testing at no charge. Additional registrations will be accepted, but those volunteer donors will be required to pay $37.50 to complete the initial testing.
To register or for more information, call Radford Community Hospital Public Affairs office, 731-2380.
