SYMPHONY FRIENDS RAISE $7,000 AT BALL|

The New River Valley Friends of the Roanoke Symphony this past weekend raised over $7,000 for its symphony projects in the year ahead at its fifth annual Blue Ridge Ball.

Over 180 people, including Conductor Victoria Bond, attended the ball held at the German Club Saturday.

The ball is a major fund-raiser for the NRV Friends' projects, such as a local pops concert planned for September; a Roanoke Symphony performance in Virginia Tech's Burruss Hall on April 25 - Bond's last appearance with the symphony; and in-school workshops and performances by symphony musicians in area elementary schools.

The ball, which had a Venetian Masked Ball theme, raised $7,000 from a silent auction held during the evening. The NRV Friends also expect additional revenue from the ball itself, according to Sally Stephenson, president of the organization.
