HOME BURNS AFTER HEATER MALFUNCTIONS

A malfunction in an oil stove triggered a fire that severely damaged a home in Roanoke Sunday night.

Capt. Riley Peters said firefighters received a call at 5:13 p.m. for the house at 4519 Pennsylvania Ave. N.E. The fire began in the downstairs heater, ran up through the chimney and consumed much of the upstairs and attic before being extinguished.

No one was injured, Peters said, but the fire caused about $30,000 in damage to the home and belongings.
