The novel was printed by Oberon, a Canadian publisher, last month. The autobiographical story is set in the 1950s in Halifax, Nova Scotia, where the fictional Charles LeBlanc loses his government job and becomes a candy peddler. It's a traditional profession, but one that is being swept aside by a post-war economic upswing, making it difficult for him to provide the family life his children and wife need.
