EAGLES ALSO WIN GIRLS OPENER 47-13

Gina Guthrie scored 14 of her game-high 23 points in the first half as Roanoke Valley Christian rolled to a 47-13 victory over Tri-Cities of Johnson City, Tenn., in the girls' basketball season opener.

The Eagles took control of the game by outscoring Tri-Cities (0-1) 14-0 in the second quarter to take a 24-6 halftime lead.

Roanoke Valley Christian (1-0) snatched 23 steals, led by Guthrie's nine and Rebecca Bryant's seven. Bryant scored 11 points.
