The school system will draw up a request for proposals for the study to include analyses of building space, the condition of buildings, energy needs and costs, and projected use of buildings for the next 20 to 30 years.
Funding for the study will be included in the proposed 1995-96 school budget.
The board will also hear an update on restructuring plans for Pulaski County High School's science department, consider having personal leave requests processed at individual schools rather than coming to the central office, and get information on Gardening for Nature grants to two schools.
Newbern and Riverlawn elementary schools each got a $150 grant from the Virginia Museum of Natural History Foundation to plant gardens. The planting and care of the gardens will be done by students with help from teachers, administrators, parents and local nurseries.
The gardens will serve as outdoor learning laboratories for students in kindergarten through fifth grade. More than 120 schools applied for the grants, and the two elementary schools were among 20 chosen.
Coordinators for the project at Riverlawn are teacher Mary Hutchens and librarian Nancy Hudson. At Newbern, they are Principal Ned Olinger and teacher Jeanie Anderson.
