BALLWEG NEW RHODE ISLAND ASSISTANT AD

Blacksburg native and Virginia Tech graduate Mike Ballweg has been named assistant athletic director for media relations and sports information at the University of Rhode Island.

Ballweg has spent the past two years as the executive director of the Carquest Bowl. He also has served as sports information director at Hampton, West Virginia and Virginia Commonwealth.

In other sports news in the region:

Washington and Lee's Elizabeth Bahn has been named to the first team of the CoSIDA Academic All-District III volleyball team.

Ball, a graduate of Cave Spring High School, was named to the second team along with Cheryl Taurassi, a junior at W&L.

Virginia senior Mike Krafchick defeated Charley Branch of VMI 3-2 in the final of the 142-pound division at the Penn State Open wrestling tournament, improving to 12-0.
