DOG GETS DEATH FOR CHASING MAILMEN

For attacking postal workers, a judge has ordered the death penalty for Smokey. And all the Labrador retriever did was chase the mail carriers, never getting close enough to actually bite them.

General District Judge T. Ryland Dodson on Tuesday ordered Smokey put to death, but set no date for the execution. He also fined the dog's owner, Craig Shawn Jackson, $50 for owning a vicious animal.

Smokey remains in the Danville Humane Society's custody while Jackson appeals the sentence.

Three Danville mail carriers said Smokey had menaced and chased after them but never got his teeth on them.

Jackson said there are dozens of other dogs in the neighborhood that fit the description of his dog.
