ADKINS, Gary D. 39, of Huddleston, passed away Friday, December 22, 1994. Arrangements by Updike Funeral Home, Huddleston.

ALLEN, Pauline Hillman, 82, of Blacksburg, died Thursday, December 22, 1994, at Montgomery Regional Hospital. Mrs. Allen was born in Coeburn, Virginia on November 7, 1912, she was a daughter of the late James N. and Ethel Powell Hillman. She was a graduate of Emory and Henry College. Mrs. Allen lived for several years in Wilmington, Del. and Caracas, Venezuela before moving to Blacksburg. She was an artist and avid bridge player. Preceding her in death was her husband, John E. Allen and a grandson, David L. Wolfle . Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Allen Leith, Wilmington, Del., and Jane Allen Wolfle, Bowling Green, Ohio; one brother, Shelton B. Hillman, Bristol, Tenn.; four grandchildren,Linda L. Giambalvo, William H. Leith, Susan J. Wolfle and James D. Wolfle; one great-grandchild, Lauren Giambalvo; two sisters-in-law, Kathleen Hillman, Radford and Elizabeth Smith, Murfreesboro, Tenn.; one brother-in-law, Bill Baker Allen, Chattanooga, Tenn.; one brother-in-law, Bill Baker Allen, Chattanooga, Tenn.,; several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, December 26, 1994, at Emory and Henry Cemetery, Emory, Va. with the Rev. David St. Clair officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hillman-Allen Scholarship Fund, Emory and Henry College, Emory, Virginia 24327. The family will receive friends Monday from 11 a.m. to noon at McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg.

BUCKNER, Mabel King, 77, of Roanoke, Co. died Thursday, December 22, 1994. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl A. Buckner and dedicated her life to her family. Mrs. Buckner was a member of The Church of the Brethren. Surviving is her daughter, Jane Arden Fisher; two sons and daughters-in-law, Carl Alan and Joyce G. Buckner, Michael Dale and Karen S. Buckner; one brother, Edward C. (Shike) King; six grandchildren, Kimberly Claybrook, Carmen Moore, Chris Buckner, Michelle Buckner, Michael Eric Buckner, Jillian D. Buckner; nine great-grandchildren. Services will be at Oakey's South Chapel 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 27, 1994, the Rev. Raymond Powers will officiate. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. CATRON, Ruby Grubb, 80, of 275 Scenic View Circle in Wytheville and formerly of Rural Retreat, died early Friday, December 23, 1994, in the Wythe County Community Hospital. She was the widow of Fred M. Catron and a member of the St. John's Episcopal Church in Wytheville. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Connie C. and R. Brent Moore, Jr. of Wytheville; a son and daughter-in-law, Fred M. and Linda A. Catron of Emory, Va.; a sister, Geraldine Wolfe of Chester, Montana; a brother, Con (Elmo) Grubb, of Rural Retreat; four grandchildren, Karen M. Deane, R. Brent Moore III, Cristal Catron and Mickey Catron; a great-grandson, Jacob Edward Deane. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, December 24, 1994, at the Lindsey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Laurie McAlpine officiating. Interment will follow in the Mountain View Cemetery in Rural Retreat. The family requests that those whom prefer, may make memorials to the St. John's Episcopal Church or the Wythe County Volunteer Rescue Squad. DALY, Lola Widner, 85, of Chilhowie, died Friday, December 23, 1994, in the Smyth County Community Hospital, Marion. She was the widow of William Houston Daly and a member of the Grosses Creek Baptist Church. Surviving are three daughters, Kathleen Alport Guy, Marion, Carolyn Daly George, Chilhowie, Phyllis Authenreith Cole, Fort Mill, S.C.; one brother, Dexter Widner, Winston-Salem, N.C.; one sister, Virginia W. Ratcliff, Glade Spring, one half brother, Heyward M. Widner, Richmond; two half sisters, Evelyn W. Sturgill, Chilhowie, Joyce Boyd, Johnson City, Tenn.; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at the Grosses Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Lloyd L. Sheets and Mr. Larry Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Williams Funeral Home. The body will be taken to the church one hour before services.

DAVIS, Blanche C., 90, of Botetourt County, passed away Thursday, December 22, 1994. She was a school teacher in Botetourt County for 36 years and a member of the Bonsack United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by a son, Warren Kent Davis. Surviving are her husband, A. Kent Davis; grandson, Warren Kent Davis, Jr.; granddaughter and husband, Suanne and Mike Orr; three great-grandchildren, Allyson, Daniel and Melynda, all of Tacoma, Wash. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Monday, at the Trinity Cemetery, Botetourt County, Route 220, 2 miles north of Daleville, with the Rev. John W. Ashley officiating. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to the Bonsack United Methodist Church, 4493 Bonsack Road, Roanoke, Va. 24012. HANCOCK, Tony Lamont, 39, of Roanoke, passed away Thursday, December 22, 1994, in Reston. Survivors include his mother, Esther Burns; one son, Tellis Minor; one stepson, Gregory L. Hunt, all of Roanoke; two brothers, Charles (Barbara) Hancock and Cosby (Janie) Burns, both of Roanoke; four sisters, Patricia Hancock, Carolyn (James) Hardy, Janice Hancock, all of Roanoke, Angela Burns, Rocky Mount; two devoted friends, Betty Duncan and Brenda Minor, both of Roanoke; a host of other relatives and friends. HOPSON, Earl E., 72, of Roanoke, died Thursday, December 22, 1994. Mr. Hopson was a U.S. Navy veteran having served during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was preceded in death b y his wife, Nettie Eva Hopson in 1984. Surviving are his sons and daughters-in-law, George E. and Terry Hopson, Mt. JOYCE, Edgar Green, 90, of 111 Park Street, Martinsville, died Thursday, December 22, 1994 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born October 4, 1904 in Patrick County to the late Richard Joyce and Lucy Jane Spencer Joyce. He was a retired bookkeeper with American Furniture and a member of First Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Lewis Joyce, a daughter, Mrs. August (Margaret) Kindla of Martinsville, a brother, Russell Joyce of Staunton, and a sister, Maggie Davis of Martinsville. He is survived by a daughter, Cynthia Washburn of Roanoke; a brother, Alvis Joyce of Critz; two sisters, Lena Gregory of Martinsville, Mildred Aliff of Martinsville; four grandchildren; four great-gra ndchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Saturday, December 24, 1994 at 11 a.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with the Rev. Dwight Christenbury officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Burial Park. WALTHALL, William H., (``Bill''), 84, of 4230 Elm View Rd., Apt. 211, Roanoke, died Friday, December 23, 1994. Mr. Walthall was born in Roanoke on September 9, 1910, and moved shortly thereafter to Hopewell, Va. He was a 1932 graduate of Virginia Tech, with a BS in Industrial Engineering, a Cadet Captain on Regimental Staff, President of Cotillion Club, Football Letterman as a manager, and a Charter Golden Hokie. He served for a long time on the Hokie Club Board, and in recent years was elected to ``Ut Prosim Society'' and the Gordon Bowman Society at Tech. He was a Retired Commander from the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was retired from J. G. Wilson Corporation, as sales manager, and was Past Senior Warden and Licensed Lay Reader and Chalicer at St. John's Episcopal Church in Hopewell, Va. He was a member of Cave Spring Masonic Lodge #230, member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign War, The Navy League, and Sons of Confederate Veterans Fincastle Rifles #1326. Mr. Walthall was a member of the Retired Officers Association, Past President and Honorary Member of the Hopewell Rotary Club and a Paul Harris Fellow. He was the Organizer and First Permanent Chairman of Tri Cities Chapter #561 Support Core of Retired Executives, and subsequently the Representative for the State of Virginia. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline A. Walthall. Survivors include a son, William H. Walthall Jr., Richmond, Ind.; daughters, Catherine Walthall Hurst, Roanoke, Margaret Walthall Jolly, Madison, N.C.; six grandchildren, Adam Walthall Christopher, Andrew N. Hurst Jr., William David Hurst, Joseph Daniel Hurst, Lee Margaret Satterfield, William Wesley Jolly; two great-grandchildren, Alex and Michele Christopher. The family suggests that flowers be omitted and memorials be made to First Presbyterian Church in Roanoke or the Clearbrook Rescue Squad. The family will receive friends at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Monday, December 26, 1994.
