NEWSPAPER BOOSTS FUND WITH $5,000

The Roanoke Times & World-News contributed $5,000 to the Good Neighbors fund this year, bringing the total to $86,918 Friday. The contribution was an increase from last year's $4,000.

``The Roanoke Times & World-News began the Good Neighbors Fund as a last-resort source of help for those in our community who have nowhere else to turn for life's essentials,'' said Walter Rugaber, president and publisher of the newspaper.

Rugaber added, ``The newspaper is delighted to be a part of a successful effort again this year. We deeply appreciate all of the large and small contributions made by hundreds of people in support of this community effort.''

Contributions will be accepted through Jan. 1.
