Winners from each of the six classrooms will compete Friday at 1:30 p.m. in a combined competition in the school's multipurpose room.

The winner of the bee will advance to the next level of competition, a written examination and receive a certificate from the National Geographic Society.
All school winners are eligible to win the national championship in Washington in May with a grand prize of a $25,000 college scholarship.
\ Cara Critzer and Michael Lee, juniors at Christiansburg High School, attended the Rotary Youth Leadership Seminar at Virginia Tech.
They attended lectures by Paul Torgersen, president of Virginia Tech; Richard Harshberger, an associate professor in the Pamplin College of Business; and Fred Combs of the Tazewell Rotary Club.
\ The Virginia Museum of Natural History awarded Gardening for Nature grants to Newbern and Riverlawn elementary schools.
The Riverlawn team of librarian Nancy Hudson and Chapter I teacher Mary Hutchins will work with the ecology club to design and create a perennial and butterfly garden.
Both schools will work with a local nursery to implement the grants and plant school gardens.

Sens. Chuck Robb and John Warner announced the appointment of senior COLLEEN SHEA as one of two delegates from Virginia to the United States Senate Youth Program.
Colleen is senior class president and a member of the International Club and the Symphonic Band. She volunteers for the Special Olympics and the Montgomery County Humane Society.
She will go to Washington with the representatives from the other states for a week of intensive study Feb. 25 to March 4.
Each delegate receives a $2,000 scholarship funded by a grant from the William Randolph Hearst Foundation.
LEON KOK and JEREMY SHAW were selected to perform in the Southeast Regional Orchestra at Patrick Henry High School in Roanoke. Leon plays the violin, Jeremy the cello.
The Distributive Education Clubs of America elected new officers for the 1994-95 year.LISA WILLIAMS is the new president; MARISA MARTIN, JAMIE SHORT, CARLA MARTIN and JILL JONES, vice presidents.
Derrick Rader placed third in a state small engine contest at the state fair.
The Boys Cross Country Team placed first at the Radford Invitational and second at the Virginia Tech Invitational.
\ The Virginia Parent Teacher Association/Parent Teacher Student Association is accepting scholarship applications from seniors attending Virginia colleges in the fall interested in working with children and youth.
Scholarships will be awarded based on both academic ability and financial need.
The completed applications must be returned to the state PTA office before March 1.

\ The Virginia Tech Department of Entomology will sponsor two one-credit GRADUATE COURSES for kindergarten through sixth-grade teachers spring semester 1995.
The classes, Aquatic Entomology for Elementary Teachers and Hands-on Insect Activities for Elementary Education, will meet five Thursdays from 6 to 8 p.m. beginning Jan. 19 and include one Saturday field trip.
The classes meet recertification guidelines.
