3-POINT ASSAULT BOMBS CARLISLE

Just call Brian Whitaker 3-Point Man.

Whitaker sank seven 3-pointers, including three in the last three minutes as North Cross defeated Carlisle 68-64 in a Virginia Independent Conference boys' high school basketball game on Thursday night.

The Raiders jumped out a 35-29 lead at halftime. Carlisle drew to within two in the third period, but Whitaker's 3-pointers sealed the win.

William Watkins chipped in 16 points for North Cross and John Prillaman added 14.

Rod Mitchell led the Chiefs with 16 pointsi.

Blacksburg 48

BLACKSBURG - Salem bolted to a 15-6 first-quarter lead and never trailed in defeating Blacksburg.

Kevin Garst led Salem with 16 points and Matt Woolwine added 14. Tony Wheeler and Philip Klaus led the Indians with 16 points each.
