KNIGHTS ABBREVIATE SHAWSVILLE'S MIRTH

James River used a 21-point first quarter to overcome a first quarter deficit and defeat Shawsville 69-53 in non-district boys' high school basketball Monday night.

Shawsville (1-7), which won its first game in over two years last Saturday, caught James River (2-6) asleep in the first quarter and crept out to a 19-17 lead.

Jeremy Nichols led the Shawnee's charge in the opening period by scoring eight points. Nichols finished the game with 18 points, including three 3-pointers. Tommy Jones also had half of his 12 points in the first for Shawsville.

Curtis Nolan brought the Knights back in the second period, scoring five of his game high 20 points, including three buckets from 3-point range. Shahan Burell also tossed in five points in the second quarter. Burrell finished the night with 12 points and Brian Shorter added 13 for James River.

Christiansburg 74

Floyd County 62

CHRISTIANSBURG - John Hairston scored 15 of his 17 points in the second half to lead four players in double figures as Christiansburg pulled away from Floyd County in a non-district boys' game.

Hairston made four of five free throws and Carlton Ashbrook hit five of six free throws in the fourth quarter as the Blue Demons made 13 of 18 in the fourth quarter.

Darrell Calloway and Donald Thompson added 12 each for Christiansburg (9-2). Mischa Alexander had 10.

Floyd County was led by Brian Harman, who had 14 points

Narrows 84

Pocahontas 44

NARROWS - Patrick Bailey scored a game-high 21 points to lead Narrows in a romp over Pocahontas in a non-district game.

Bailey scored eight of his points and hit both of his 3-pointers in the third quarter as Narrows (5-2) outscored Pocahontas 22-7 in the third.

Robbie Stafford added 14 for the Green Wave. Bryan Pruett and Cody Chambers chipped in 10 each.

Pocahontas was led by Corey Nunley, who had 11.
