PALMER POWERS VIRGINIA

Wendy Palmer had 23 points, eight rebounds and four assists Saturday night to lead No. 12 Virginia to a 73-53 Atlantic Coast Conference victory over cold-shooting Georgia Tech.

Palmer had six points as the Cavaliers (13-3 overall, 6-0 ACC) took control by closing the first half with a 15-2 run for a 42-22 lead.

Georgia Tech (9-8, 2-4) got no closer than 17.

Virginia took its biggest lead at 51-26 on a scoop shot by Palmer in the lane with 15:07 remaining.

The Cavaliers also got 19 points from Jeffra Gausepohl and 13 from Jenny Boucek.

Georgia Tech, which shot 30.6 percent from the field, was led by Kisha Ford with 19 points and Christie Finney with 15.

Hollins 52

NORFOLK - Amy Beisch scored a game-high 18 points on six 3-pointers to lead Virginia Wesleyan to the Old Dominion Athletic Conference victory over Hollins.

Beisch also had five assists to lead the Marlins (9-4, 7-4). Sister Andrea Beisch added 15 points and six assists, and Ericka Bynum had 17 points.

Hollins (2-14, 1-12) was led by Janet Stallard, who scored 12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

LYNCHBURG - The Maroons shot 38 percent from the floor (23-for-60), but held the Hornets to 29 percent shooting in the first half in winning an ODAC game.

Crystal Wilson led Roanoke (10-3, 8-1) with 18 points. Lori Boyd added 12, Marcee Hufton 11 and Amy Athey 10.

Kelly Fackler, a former Fieldale-Collinsville High School standout, made three 3-pointers in leading Lynchburg (6-9, 4-7) with 25 points on 7-of-23 shooting.

N.C. Wesleyan 74

Ferrum 67

FERRUM - The Panthers trimmed 14 points off a 17-point deficit, but came up short in a Dixie Conference game.

The Bishops led 60-43 with 9 minutes to play, but Ferrum (8-6, 2-0) pulled within three, 70-67, on Aimee Barker's 3-pointer with 33 seconds to play. North Carolina Wesleyan (10-4, 3-1) scored the last four points from the free-throw line.

Kia Williams led Ferrum with 22 points, Glossary Smith scored 18 and Barker scored 11.

Emily Sisson led the Bishops with 16 points.

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Laura Haynes scored a game-high 20 points to pace three players in double figures as Guilford routed Washington and Lee in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference game.

Bari Nixon added 13 points and Marija Preimats had 12 for the Quakers (14-1,11-1).

Washington and Lee (4-11, 3-10) was led by freshman Tonia Dean, who scored 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
