FLOYD COUNTY ROLLS OVER RADFORD 91-76

Floyd County used a 35-point second quarter to roll to a 91-76 victory over Radford in a Three Rivers District boys' game Saturday night.

Travis Cantrell led Floyd County (8-3 overall, 1-1 district) with 20 points, including an 11-for-11 showing at the free-throw line. Ben Kiser and Peter Bucklin each scored 14 for the Buffaloes, and Brian Harman added 11.

Floyd County sank 21-of-33 field-goal attempts in the first half (63.6 percent) and led 51-25 at halftime.

Foster Ridpath led Radford with 21 points. Matt Linkous made three 3-pointers and scored 14 points, and D.J. Jones and Chuck Hubbard each scored 12.

GALAX - Sophomore Wes Self scored a game-high 20 points to help the Blue Devils (10-2, 3-0) defeat the Maroon Tide (6-5, 0-2) in the Mountain Empire District.

Self, who had 14 in the Blue Devils' win Friday night against Fort Chiswell, scored nine in a third quarter run that helped Grayson County take a 12-point lead.

Galax (6-5, 0-2) trailed by two, 23-21, with less than two minutes to go in the first half before Self hit a jumper and Lucas Austin hit a 3-pointer and free throw after getting fouled to help the Blue Devils take a six-point lead at halftime.

Grayson County (10-2, 3-0) then scored the first nine points of the third quarter and took control of the game. Bryan Boyer added 15 points, and Chad Shaffner had 10 for the Blue Devils.

Galax was led by Tito Crockett, who scored 12 points. Ken Houtz and Jeff Ross each added 10.

DUBLIN - The Cougars opened up a 25-8 lead and never looked back in beating the Eagles in the Roanoke Valley District.

Kara Buckner led Pulaski County (13-1, 6-0) with 17 points. She was 11-of-13 on free-throw attempts. Lisa Skeens scored 14, and Jodie Hallett had 10.

Sandy Hudson scored 15 for the Eagles, and Renee Clayborne added 14.
