ROCKY GAP CLAIMS OT WIN OVER BLAND

BLAND - Tracy Bradshaw hit a jumper with 38 seconds left in the second overtime that gave Rocky Gap the lead for good as the Eagles held on to beat Bland 67-64 on Saturday in a Mountain Empire District boys' game.

Bland (5-5 overall, 0-2 district) had taken a 63-61 lead on a basket by Shannon Havens, but Bradshaw, who had 13 points, hit two free throws to tie the game at 63.

Bradley Tate then hit a free throw to give Bland a one-point lead. Tate missed another free throw, and after both teams missed field goals, Bradshaw hit the shot that gave Rocky Gap a 65-64 lead.

Bland missed two field-goal attempts as Nathan Blessing, who scored 17 points, blocked the last attempt, and Kevin Dehart hit a shot with three seconds left to provide the final margin.

Will Dodson led Rocky Gap with 18 points and 16 rebounds. David Lambert had 15 points, and Havens added12 and eight rebounds to lead Bland.

Lebanon 55

George Wythe 45

LEBANON - The Hylton twins, Ben and Wade, combined to score 12 of Lebanon's 17 fourth-quarter points as the Pioneers (8-1, 6-0) defeated the Maroons (9-4, 7-2) in the Hogoheegee District.

Wade Hylton made six free throws down the stretch to put the game away for Lebanon (8-1, 6-0) and finished with eight points. Ben Hylton scored six of his game-high 21 in the fourth quarter.

George Wythe (9-4, 7-2) was led by Jon Ervin, who scored 12 points.

Grayson County 67

Galax 55

GALAX - Sophomore Wes Self scored a game-high 20 points to help the Blue Devils (10-2, 3-0) defeat the Maroon Tide (6-5, 0-2) in the Mountain Empire District.

Self, who had 14 in the Blue Devils' win Friday night against Fort Chiswell, scored nine in a third quarter run that helped Grayson County take a 12-point lead.

Galax (6-5, 0-2) trailed by two, 23-21, with less than two minutes to go in the first half before Self hit a jumper and Lucas Austin hit a 3-pointer and free throw after getting fouled to help the Blue Devils take a six-point lead at halftime.

Grayson County (10-2, 3-0) then scored the first nine points of the third quarter and took control of the game. Bryan Boyer added 15 points, and Chad Shaffner had 10 for the Blue Devils.

Galax was led by Tito Crockett, who scored 12 points.

Buffalo Gap 76

Covington 65

SWOOPE - Buffalo Gap (4-8) jumped out to a 30-10 after one quarter and never looked back in avenging an earlier loss to Covington (7-5).

The Bison (4-8) led by 26 points in the first half. Josh Simmers led Buffalo Gap with a game-high 28 points.

Covington (7-5) was led by Robert Roman, who had 18, and Mike Barber added 10.

Carlisle 96

Westover Chr. 23

MARTINSVILLE - Rod Mitchell scored a game-high 21 points and had 10 steals as Carlisle romped past Westover Christian.

Kevin Warren added 20 points, and Joseph McClinton had 17 for Carlisle (11-2). J.D. Draper had 12 points and Ryan Smith chipped in 10 as Carlisle grabbed a 52-16 halftime lead and held Westover scoreless in the third quarter.

Westover was led by Jon Kent, who scored 10 points.

Friday's games

Fieldale-Collinsville 58, Tunstall 43: In Dry Fork, the Cavaliers pulled away from a halftime tie as they defeated the Trojans.

Mancino Craighead led the way for the Cavaliers (11-4, 10-2) with a game-high 15 points. Matt Law and Mike Whitt each scored 13 points in the win.

Ronta Harris and Ronta Johnson each scored a team-high 13 points for Tunstall. Linwood Petty added 10 points in the losing cause.

Gretna 57, Martinsville 55: In Gretna, William Merritt scored seven points in the fourth quarter as the Hawks posted their first-ever win over the Bulldogs.

Brian Robertson made four 3-pointers and finished with 18 points for Gretna (6-8, 5-6).

Carlos Martin scored 12 for Martinsville (10-4, 10-2). Mike Martin scored 11, and Mante Venable had 10.

Patrick Henry JV 75,Covington Boys' Home 44: Davon Battle scored a game-high 24 points to lead Patrick Henry's junior varsity over Covington Boys' Home in a non-district game.

Malki Shareef added 16 points for Patrick Henry JV (9-2), and Ronnie Kasey chipped in 14.

Covington Boys' Home (3-9) was led by Sean Riddick, who scored 16.
