HIPPENSTEEL WINS 4 OF 5 IN TOURNEY

Roanoke's K.J. Hippensteel was far from out of his element against older competition in the Newport News Mid-Atlantic Tennis Championships during the weekend.

Hippensteel, 14, won four of five matches to place among the top five in the 16-year-old division. Among Hippensteel's victories was a 6-2, 6-1 rout of top-seeded Goran Kreiac of Potomac, Md.

Hippensteel's only loss in the tournament was to his former doubles partner, Andrew Vu of Reston. Vu won the match over Hippensteel, the fourth seed, in three sets.
