MONTGOMERY-RADFORD UW PLEASED WITH CAMPAIGN

The United Way of Montgomery County and Radford officially wrapped up its over-the-top 1994 campaign this week.

The final donation tally is $840,071, a record-breaking figure representing 106 percent of the campaign's goal.

Carol Herdman, United Way fund distribution chairwoman, said her committee will meet next week to determine how to reapportion the surplus.

With a number of the social services agencies supported by United Way donations facing drastic budget cuts, the generosity of local donors is timely, campaign officials said.

More than 300 businesses contributed to the campaign, Jo Lynn Price, 1994 chairwoman, told campaign officials and volunteers at a wrap-up reception Wednesday at The Farmhouse Restaurant.

"The community has responded in a way that proves that love and concern for our fellow man is indeed alive and well in the New River Valley," she said.
