JUVENILES BEAT GUARD, FLEE FROM DETENTION HOME

A guard was badly beaten Saturday morning by three juveniles who escaped from Loudoun County's juvenile detention home.

Two of the three youths were recaptured by noon Saturday. State police and local officers continued their search for the third. Authorities were staking out an area in eastern Loudoun where they believed the third youth might try to meet up with friends, police said.

The guard, identified by The Washington Post as Deputy Norman Miller, was in critical condition Saturday night at Washington Hospital Center with head injuries, officials said.

Authorities declined to say why the boys originally were in custody, but said they could face additional charges in the beating of the guard.
