EMORY & HENRY PLANS INTERNATIONAL PROGRAM

Emory & Henry College plans to establish a Center for International Studies to strengthen its bonds with the global community and provide students with more career opportunities.

The center, under the direction of Samir Saliba, will emphasize Middle Eastern and Asian studies. Saliba, a native of Lebanon and a faculty member, will lead the program's Middle Eastern studies. The college is seeking a professor with expertise in Asian and Far Eastern studies.

The college will offer an array of courses in the international field, require students in the program to learn a second language, and provide new opportunities for studies abroad. Students can choose to graduate with an international studies major or use international studies as a support area for other majors.

The center will encourage faculty development with overseas research sabbaticals and exchanges with foreign professors.

Faculty Dean James Dawsey said he hoped the center also would attract foreign students to the campus.

Students can enroll in the program this fall.
