NAVY PETTY OFFICER 3RD CLASS GARY L. HAWKS son of Joyce F. Hawks of Salem and Ray Hawks of Moneta, recently returned from a six-month deployment to the Mediterranean, Adriatic and Red Sea with the USS San Jacinto.

Hawks is a 1982 graduate of Salem High School. Wade, son of Dathea H. Wade of Roanoke, is a 1991 graduate of William Fleming High School.

NAVY SEAMAN RECRUIT MARK C. LUCAS, son of Donald and Judith Lucas of Roanoke, recently completed basic training at Recruit Training Command in Orlando, Fla.

Lucas is a 1994 graduate of Northside High School.
