MAN MAY FACE CHARGE IN 2 ATTACKS

Police and a prosecutor believe the prime suspect in the death of a cab driver last week also slashed the neck of another man the same day.

Charles A. Wade, 20, of Lynchburg was being held without bond at Lynchburg City Jail on a malicious wounding charge, Police Investigations Cmdr. Earl Burnette said.

Wade is charged with knifing Gary W. Johnson of Lynchburg about 2:30 a.m. Thursday, Burnette said.

Johnson was treated and released from Lynchburg General Hospital, a nursing supervisor said.

Police plan to seek a murder indictment against Wade for the stabbing death of the cab driver, Richard D. Harden, 43, of Lynchburg.

Lynchburg Commonwealth's Attorney William G. Petty will present the case at the March 6 meeting of a Lynchburg Circuit Court grand jury, Burnette said.

A woman walking her dog found Harden's body about 12:30 p.m. Thursday in a park near Lynchburg College.

Harden was killed in the early morning hours Thursday, Burnette said.
